I had a job interview in Doha in the oil industry with international company.

I am Engineer with western engineering degree and 20 years of western experience.

The interview was for a Contract Manager position in Doha.

Questions (urgent responses are appreciated):

1.What is the expected (base)salary range for such a position?

2.Can the company pay back the employee an equivalent check to replace the Taxes that I will end up paying in my home country?

3. What is the rent cost for (furnished) accomodations (4 bed rooms 2-floors villa, 3 bath rooms, AC, seperate maid room,in a closed complex)? Should I ask the company to pay rent directly? Should I accept an allowance then I pay for the rent? Does the rent increase every 3 months, or 6 months, or one year? Should the (utility)costs be included in the deal?

4. What kind of a percentage bonus should I ask for?

5. Should I accept an allowance for kids' school? or should I ask the company to pay the school directly? Is the bus transportation cost usually part of the deal?

6. Air line tickets: Should I ask for economy or buisness travel? Is that too much to ask? Do I get paid an allowance for the tickets or the company pay directly?

7. How many days of vacation am I expecting to get per year? If I do not go back home for vacation, would I loose the vacation?

8. What does (13th check) means?

9. Would the company provide a car?

10. What is the best hospital in Doha that has the best Doctors? What are typical details for the (private) health care and benefits?

11. How many sick leave am I allowed to get?

11. Am I missing something that I should be aware of?

I do appreciate your immediate responses very much.

(Daniyah).

han19: thanks so much for the updates honey, u r so of a help!

Serendipity: couldnt agree with you anymore.. i totally agree that i should be dealing with employment matters in a more proffessional manner, but trust me, i wasnt marketing myself at that moment and i wasnt even aware that there r employers on baord too.. so, many thanks for shedding a light on that.

luisa: thank u hun, but im still not there yet, i might need 3 months to go.. and students will be on vacations by then, but thanks anyway.

wondering what i will write:-D

dont worry....i dont think mais will be offended....but i do feel what you said made a lot of sense.it could be a rare occassion where a potential employer might stumble upon this thread...but its always better to present oneself in the best way possible.

thankyou so much...i shall remember this.

as a matter of fact i used to use a lot of short forms before until one member brought it to our attention since some couldnt understand most of whats posted in shortforms and then onwards i have tried controlling it. sometime we just take things for granted.

If you are interested for a part time job, I know some students from a British School that seeks for a tutor. A teacher / professional, who is willing to come to thier house and give them reviewers and exercise for their Math Class. (mostly they are bad at math). I tried it with one family ( 3 children ) and the salary is not bad at all. I got 3600 a month plus transportation and its only 3 hours a day. It doesnt mean that I am not satisfied with my salary but I rather spend time outside the house rather than stay in the house missing my baby.

I can give you their numbers if you like.

I hope this doesn't offend, as it's meant to be helpful and is said with the best of intentions:

Mais, you should be aware that there are employers who post classified ads on these boards.

In the circumstances, I think that you are not presenting yourself in the best of lights as a potential teacher or government employee by writing the way you do in a mixture of 'txt speak' and with sloppy spelling errors and so on.

I'm not in a position to employ people, I'm not even based in Qatar (yet!), I'm just hanging out here to find out more about what's it like to live and work over there, and to learn useful, practical information about living costs, where to acquire the essentials, how to resolve transport and accommodation issues and so on.

But! If I was in a position to employ someone with your qualifications, and if I knew of a vacancy, I'd really hesitate to mention it to you and solicit your interest because of the way you have written.

I guess I worry that you may be inadvertently ruling yourself out of the running for possible positions you might never hear about because of your unprofessional style of writing.

This is not a professional forum, that's true, but if you're looking for a job, especially one that involves teaching, then I feel you'd do much better to present yourself in the very best (and professional) possible light.

It's just my personal opinion, but to my mind it's possibly okay to write so informally on informal matters, but when you're asking about professional matters, it's better to adopt a more professional approach.

With best regards and good luck in your endeavours.

Serendipity

(NB: I may be completely wrong about this, so if QL veterans want to chip in and tell me I'm wrong, then fair enough, I'd be very happy to stand corrected.)

hi mais...the salary range i mentioned is for indian teachers..since you are a uk national it could be better for you.

look at all the options while here....and i am sure you will get work on hourly basis or parttime.i had done it since i too have little children so i know there is scope for such work.

you just have to relax with the pay scale and get your right gears here first. once you know how the trend is.....then you can find your way about.

i am sure it wont be difficult.

hi mais2002....i wont ignore your post.

little experience....but yes you can still land a job...maybe not in the govt organisations becasue they look for lot of experience.....but you could definitely try in schools and there is a good probability that you will be hired as a computer teacher.

i am not sure about the pay scale becasue indian schools usually pay in the range of 2000-4000qrs per month.any other school??????dont know my dear.

but once you are here. i would advise you to apply in all places..try to meet them personally..........because this place is getting very competitive and they do look at the right qualification and experience. when you get to meet the HR....do your best......you never know where you will strike lucky and this concern of yours today may just seem silly to you then :-D

dont limit yourself to working in a place thats suiting you due to their shorter worktiming. be open to everything and you will find more scope and oppurtunities.

having said that i feel there is a right place and a right time for everything.i sincerely pray you get it as soon as you land here insha'allah.

take care.
