Hi, We are in a dilema, we dont know if we should accept a job offer. Could anyone please advise us. There is just the 2 of us and we are both in our 40's. My husband has been offered a job. The package includes accomadation allowance of QR11,000 for an apartment, QA2,000 for transport flights and health insurance will be paid for by the company. We have outgoings at home and after doing our sums and we are left with QR7,517. This wil be for food and clothes will this be enough to live of a month.

is a pretty good salary here. If after all of your expenses both here and at home you have 7,500 for entertainment, you should have a decent standard of livin here.

2500 a month should cover you for food so that leaves you with ~5000. What needs to come out of this? If it's purely excess social money then fine, but if savings have to come out of that (I assume, like most of us, you're coming out here to generate some savings) it isn't a lot.

Also you'll probably find 11000 isn't enough for a high standard apartment. The 7500 your company mentioned definitely wont be enough. Your best bet is to get the company to pay the rent for a high spec apartment, then you wont get stung by rent increases either.

Also, are you being paid in QAR or GBP? As exiledsaint mentioned the riyal is tied to the dollar, so your salary can change in relation to your home currency.

7500/- left after paying rent is very good I know many people who dont even get 7500/- permonth and still they are doing very well

QR 2000 CAR ALLOWANCE VERY GOOD

QR 11 000 NOT GOOD MAYBE FOR A 2 BEDRM APPARTMENT UNFURNISHED

QR 7500 not good if this is all you have left.

QR 1000 WATER & LIGHTS

QR 300 TEL ETC.

FOOD I FIND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE

going out to places is also very expensive unless you go fishing or swimming

good luck

Its not a bad package depending on what the job is. However good European standard accommodation is hard to come by and can easily set you back 15,000 for an apartment. As for a villa, that's easily 15,000 and up.

You will find the prices here about the same as Western Europe but its actually a nice place to live.

If you are coming for an adventure you'll be fine, if you are coming for the money and want to save a lot probably not so good. The Riyal is tied to the dollar and as the dollar slides so does you salary......

Sandy, If you want to live on a 'european' diet it will cost circa QR2500 per month for two (excluding booze), if your'e adventurous and willing to experiment with 'local'food this could easily be halved.

Sorry if my message is a bit hard to follow. We will have a salary of QA 37000 is a months salary. The company have told us they have accomadation which will cost us 7,500 for a decent apartment. They said a car will cost around QA 2000 a month. As we are keeping our house in England and we will still have outgoings the total from the salary left is QA 7500 for the 2 of us. Will that be enough for us to have a decent life in Doha.

I do not understand your calculations. Do you mean you have QR11000 for accomodation or as salary? Qr 2000 for transportation sounds ok but where is his job location? What is the salary?Qr 7000 per month for the 2 of you is very good
