A good offer ?

Hello,

I would like to know if this is a good offer or not. I have about years experience and I work and live in the USA. My current salary in the USA is $75K/year. I got an offer in Qatar as an engineer with a total salary of $100K/year everything inclusive. I know it is a tax free country. So me moving there, my salary is about 40% more plus tax free, but I dont know about the cost of living from USA to Qatar, and if this is an offer worth taking. My goal is save atleast $50K a year but also living a decent and comfortable life. Is that possible with a $100K salary?

Please advice.

Thanks,
tiki

They also gave me 45 days of vacation and a two way ticket every year for me and my family to my country in addition to 15% yearly bonus which I will have after leaving the company.

I am thinking od negotiation for an additional $6K. Do they negotiate or their offer is fix?

Thanks,

Edi

faraz, I never said that I need a "decent" life. I chose the "primitive" life on purpose. I like it! Did I make myself clear?

@LP, well obviously you have loadz of problem,And now cince you realize al these wonder why u want to live an indecent life here.... whoz holding u from going back to your decent world?..to get something u lose something, if what you lose is trivial then u shdn't make fuss about it. ( which i consider is the case as you are still here) if what you lose is of supreme importance, then you shdn't be here.

@ tiki, I think it's a good offer for 1 year exp guy. Cheers!

living a descent life will depend on your lifestyle here in qatar. there are some who live a descent life even if their salary is less than 15k dollars/year.

I know what you mean LP..though the offer is good enough but how this westerner will not find decent life here in qatar compared to US? All your concern above are true and most of idiot drivers.

A decent Fully Furnished 2BR accommodation will Cost you QR.6,500 (You can contact Al Emadi Real Estate)

Lease of A Good Brand New SUV will cost a month Approx: QR. 2,600 * 48 Months (Eg: Brand New Honda CRV cost QR. 115,000)

Monthly food expenses for two will be Approx QR. 1,500 (Cooking at Home)

Utilities (Mobile, Internet, Water & Electricity) Approx: QR. 1,000

Its upto you how to spend or save the rest of your income :) And it depends on your lifestyle.

And be aware that Qatar is still under sponsorship system. Which means if you need to change your employer your existing employer has to approve to release you. If not the only option is you have to exit the country, you will be banned for 2 years from re entering the country on a employment Visa.

All the best!!!

by the local's you would be treated similiarily to an "illegal" from south of the border..but worse..

No human rights..

Laws don't apply equally.

life is ok here, once you learn the ways here..

oh and it gets really hot here...

Your offer should be your current salary plus 25% plus housing, transportation, etc. Rent and a car will eat up a lot. And your salary isn't entirely or automatically tax-free if you are a US resident.

To the OP: yes, it's a good offer financially.

if it is truly all inclusive..that would be ok...

besides the 25k bump, you also get about 25% back from the tax-free income..

depending on your lifestyle you should be good to go..

By anonymous• 28 Jun 2012 14:55

... so cherukkan, let's call it primitive here, but not decent.

By anonymous• 28 Jun 2012 14:54
anonymous

... and when was the last time that you were at an open-air concert of a famous rock band?

By anonymous• 28 Jun 2012 14:53

cherukkan, what is decent here? Can you sit in a street cafe and watch the girls go by? Can you go to an opera? Can you go to a sports event without fearing being not allowed to enter? Can you go to a mall without fearing to burn to death? Can you drive in the streets without fearing to be bumped by an idiot? Can you go to a beach and wear what is suitable for the location and the weather? Can you? A decent life means more than just going shopping!!

BTW, please clarify if you are coming alone or with your family. What about your airticket and such benefits?

Depends on your lifestyle.

In Qatari Riyal terms you have 15K to spend, which is more than enough for most to have a decent life, but a pittance if you want to have a big villa, eat at fancy restaurants often, fancy car etc..

Are you married or single? QR 30k per month is more then sufficient to have a decent life style + savings. Your biggest expense will be housing if not covered by your employer. I would say take the jump and come to Doha!!

You can't live a "decent" life in Qatar no matter how much you earn!
