IS THIS A GOOD OFFER

Hi I have just been offered a job in Qatar and was wondering if you can tell me if this is a good offer:

9200 basic salary (month)
5000 Accomodation (Month)
2000 Transport (Month)
10000 Furniture allowance (once off)

I am a single guy from Australia, hoping to get a place of my own. Would 5000 cover a fully furnished place or even an unfurnished 2 bedroom? What sort of car can i buy for 2000 per month??

Hope you can help out thanks in advance..

depend what your expectation is. How much do you have to pay for any expenses back in your home country. Child support , mortgage , car loan etc etc ...

I honestly think your offer is low for western country passport holder. 5000 will get you nothing for a house. Except if you want to share 3 or 4 people in a flat.

Forget about other people that saying your offer is good. Do the math yourself. For them who making 2000-3000 a month and have to rent a room off course your offer is very good. Mind you QL have very wide range of members, from people who making 2000 QR a month to people who make over 40000 QR a month.

And bear in mind the 'exit permit', you cant leave the country if your employer not signing your exit permit.

Once you get here, if you find another better offer / employer, you will not able to leave your company if they dont give you NOC.

Good luck with your decision.

Yes, it is very different to Abu Dhabi in that you don't have the same "entertainment" options which are generally fairly expensive. Nor is the environment as cosmopolitan.

Can you find things to do? Yes - however your options are limited merely by the population and size of the country.

Take a look at the various QL groups or do a search on a specific activity, you'll be able to find likeminded people to ask specific questions - hurry! Summer is fast approaching and much of the expat population will be leaving town soon.

I thing you can live very good and eat out everyday here, stuff is very cheap for the most part. And it will be a live experience for sure, just bring a lot of patience with you .... things are different here for sure

This is not a very good offer for an Oz passport holder. A decent 2 bedroom apartment is still going to run around 8000 (in a new place with full furnishings) but the prices are coming down.

If you cannot get a fully furnished apartment at that allowance the 10000 is garbage. A fridge is at least 1000 and a decent stove the same - bed/couch/lamps not a good deal

Do a quick search online at Gulf Times and the Peninsula for classified rentals

check the classifieds to see what 5000 can get you. I think it would be bordering on ghetto accomodations.
