Furniture allowance in QP
Hello,
I have got an offer from QP for senior position. I have a question regarding the furniture allowance QP pays to their employee.
Since I am moving from Canada and instead of disposing off all my house holds in Canada I am thinking to book all my house furnitute & house holds to Qatar. Since QP doesn't give you any significant mobalization amout therefore I have to pay for this shipment. My question is, Can I use the furniture allowance money to pay for this shipment and QP just pays lump sum allowance and doesn't required any receipts for furniture purchase in Qatar ?
I am planning to first complete the probationary period and then move my family and ship the house holds.
Your response is highly appreciated.
Please don't misinterpret me..but if you really received an offer from QP, why didn't you asked them directly??
Hi Nasir
I have been reading your posts and found many similarities with you in my case (same company offer, kids with same age and braces, ontario)
Would you care to email me at [email protected] and we can take it from there
Sometimes the management might overlooked or misunderstood. So, you should check with them.
Arnie you should raise this issue with your HR because normally you are only require to pay back due to resignation or terminate on disciplinary ground. The management has the discretion to exampt any employee from paying back if the termination is other than resignation or on disciplinary ground.
Good luck!
numerous contract types that were dictated primarily by the salary they had to offer. There were standard contracts that followed the general scales.
Then came (late 80's) definite contracts that allowed QP to rcruit above mid-point. Finally (early 90's), there were special contracts that allowed QP to recruit outside the scales.
Housing and transport (depending on the job's needs) for definite (fixed term) and "special" contracts was frequently provided due to the fixed term nature of the contracts.
For senior staff, currently the housing allowance is 55,000 QR. They will normally give you 5,000 QR when you join and the remaining 50,000 QR lump sum upon successful completion of the 3-month probation period.
Depreciation is as follows:
Yr 1 40%
Yr 2 20%
Yr 3 20%
Yr 4 20%
The above is based on you residing in non-QP provided accommodation.

Why is abbreviation such a long word? LOL
QP's discretion whether they deduct or waive any balance of furniture allowance owing upon your de-mob. The period of the furniture allowance depreciation varies according to your contract duration.
Interesting that many people seem to think that all QP's employee contracts are the same, in fact they are not. Some QP contracts provide housing whilst others provide a housing allowance. Some contracts include the use of a QP pool or personal vehicle, others require you to purchase a vehicle and provide you with an interest free loan of 3X monthly salary (usually not enough) to purchase one.
In any case, take nothing for granted and make sure that contract terms are agreed in writing before accepting any contract offer.
I was demob from QP due to redundancy grounds after almost 4 yrs. of service. QP deducted from my final settlement the balance of my furniture allowance. Take note I did not resign. Is this correct.
i intend to do the samething as nasir & with proper calculation u may also hv a savings after shipping all the stuff 2 Qatar.
LAST YEAR IT WAS INCREASED TO 55K FOR FURNITURE ALLOWANCE
Furniture allowance hardly varies no matter what position you are in.
It's usually around 45k (15k per year)

My spy is very close to the action but we don't often communicate.
Must keep in touch more
Dweller, it seems that my spy in QP is more uptodate than yours. Wish I can work in QP though
We live in the U.S and my husband got a job in Doha, but we all are moving together over there, they didn't say anything about a probation time, but my husband doesn't want to be away from us. He went in Jan. over there for the interview. Do you think is better that he moves first and then me and my baby?
Thank you so much, I really appreciate your response,
for that BHappy.
I must have a word with my spy in QP.
BTW, are you in QP?
Nasir, If you can tell, Which department will you be joining. ?
Regards
Dweller, The depriciation factor has changed and now the depriciation is 40% for the first year and 60% for remaining 3 years (i.e 20 % each year). The allowance has been revised also and currently it stands at 55,000 QR for senior staff.
cos i just happened to be on line! and am sorting out furniture allowance with my ex-employer!!!
rgds
nasirzia, furniture allowance is a one time grant & its up to you what you gonna to do with the money. no recipt no anything. they will bank in the money & that all.
transportation of your household covered under mobillization, I thinks around 600kg for parents and also small amount for each children. You can asked QP personnel here once you arrive if they can pay for a whole container which you can dump all your items there : )
I am from Ontario. I have sent out all medical reports and waiting for visa and email from QP.
Hello nasirzia,
Where in Canada are you from? I am from Calgary, AB and considering moving to Qatar as well. I have been dealing with many of the same questions you are asking.
Hoping we can get in touch - we can probably share a lot of information. Can you please pm me?
Ali
that the furniture allowance still depreciates at 25% per annum.
After 4 years you will owe QP nothing.
Thanks for such a quick response. I just want to clarify one thing here that I am coming alone until the probationary period is completed then the shipments and family move will be processed.
The good news is that QP have just raised the furniture allowance and the car loan!
Provided QP doesn't change their current policy, QP will pay you the furniture allowance in lump sum upon your confirmation after 3 months probation period without any question. But as Novita said, if you resign within 4 yrs then you have to pay back certain amount in accordance to the depreciation of the allowance. Please refer to your Standard Terms and Conditiond of Employment on that.
Harley ... u were quick !!!
you only get the furniture allowance only after you pass the probation time. And also if you resign before 4 yrs you have to pay back the company in partial amound. Can remember the portion ... probably Dweller can help you in this department.
Not sure about QP but the government department I worked for paid the furniture allowance after completion of 3 month probation period. It was a lump sum paid with my salary and could be spent on any thing - no requirement for receipts. Also they offered to pay for 350kgs sea shipping of personal belongings - you should ask QP about this as it's pretty standard practice here. Good luck!
