Doha Salary, Cost of Living
By webdeveloper •
Hello,
I was recently offered a job as a web developer offering accommodation + medical + insurance and 2000 USD.
I have more than 5 years of experience as a web developer and programmer, specialise in PHP, JSP, Java, VB, Linux, currently working in London.
I have absolutely no idea of what is the going salary rate in Qatar for similar roles. Any thing to keep in mind when negotiating salary? what are perks, benefit involved? is car included as standard?
What is average cost of living, household expenses for two? I would appreciate if anyone from the UK can also do a comparison.
Waiting to hear from youall.
Cheers!
Salary what i am getting in london (sans taxes) is just about the same in qatar. I understand the accommodation is a family accommodation and i am being called for an interview to doha sometime next week.
I was given to understand things like electricity, internet, phones are paid for by the employer and i would have to just spend for food, entertainment.
What all to lookout for, ask the employer? Elsewhere in this forum i read about family allowance, is this a standard? and generally how is life in qatar? saving potential?
What are things involved when relocating for work outside UK? do i need to inform the inland revenue office? banks? postoffice?
Web Developer,
Is USD2000 better than what you're getting in London?
A car isn't standard in contracts. It depends on where you work. But being in IT, it usually isn't.
In terms of Household expenses, visit http://lifeonthespot.com/blog/qatar/cost_of_living/ to see a list of groceries and their cost in Qatari rials and compare them to the cost in the UK.

Chris
