normal working hours i would be expected to work for a western women and what kind of pay & benefits i could expect for an administration job. This would be for a full time positiion.
It looks like there was a misunderstanding what you read and what Fedup was trying to say. I may be wrong but when Fedup put "normal working hours i would be expected to work for a western women ", she was meaning, what hours she would expect to work as a western women, that is my opinion but I may be wrong.
Any way, I think your last comments were good advise for her.
Rude, I do not think I was rude. I read your message and saw that you do not have the proper use of prepositions. You say "to work for a western woman". I my knowledge that means you have been offered a job by a western woman and are inquiring as to the hours. Correct? I answered to that. Now if you had put your message correct: "as a western woman" I would have answered that. Before you say that people are rude you should look at what I answered and what I answered it to. Also fyi the job you are looking for is based on the requirements of the employer, not according to nationality. And as was mentioned before, most admin jobs are filled by the cheaper labourers. And they are willing and are used to work for less money and long hours. If you want the kind of job with the conditions you are used to I recommend you try for the oil companies or schools. Place your cv with the recruitment agencies & check the gulf times. Also a change might be needed an instead of being a admin staff, you might do real estate or anything you are interested in and like doing.
Alicat is correct, you need to go to an agency or get your cv to as many companies as possible. I have just found a job as a receptionist and the hours are 8:30 to 5:30, yes they are more than I was used to in the UK but at least it's a job. I don't want to put my salary here in the forum but if you want to pm me I can give you more info.
I have noticed that you are fairly new here on QL and thought that Aisha-Taweela was rude to you, yes she was but please don't let this put you off of participating more on QL.
Gosh, the hours do seem long, i was only used to working 35 hour week. Ok, it looks like i need to be a bit more specific on the job title, say a secretary or reception position.
Also, are you saying that me as westener, i might not be able to get a job in administration? Cheers again for the info.
I mean that you might need some good luck to actually land an admin job here easily.
I think you will find getting an admin job here a challenge as they are mainly filled by nationalities that are cheap and are often are sponsored by the company.
There will be some jobs I am sure - but may take you a little while to suss out the situation here.
Why dont you approach a recruitment company here and go from there? Or speak to people where your husband is working. They both should at least be able to offer you general advice.
I know some admin staff here who work from 8 am to 8pm or 9 pm with a few breaks in between.
but i'm not sure what you mean by "Good luck in finding an admin job here that will provide you with what you expect". I don't know what to expect that was why i was asking. I just want to find an administration job now i'm here with my husband. I've looked at the gulf times for positions but it never gives any idea on the normal working hours, example do they work a 35 or 30 hour week.
Aisha- Very rude reply, what do you mean "Why don't you ask her first in what she wants and then check if this is reasonable. How can we help you with such question now????" Ask who?, who is her?
Good luck in finding an admin job here that will provide you with what you expect.
Working hours could be variable depending if the company works all day or have a few hours break in the afternoon then works again in the late afternoon/evening.
As I am sure you are aware most admin jobs here are filled with nationalities that are the cheapest for the employer, these people are exploited and are overworked and underpaid.
It really depends what the admin job covers, what field the company works in, what company it is, and what the package including benefits etc that they can offer you.

have been really useful. Will try an agency & some expat schools as per your suggestions.
Basically yes you will find it difficult as a westener to get an admin job here. Usually they are filled with cheap labour.
That was only an example of the worst case of the long hours here that people can be expected to work. Not saying that every job would be like that.
How about approaching some of the expat schools here?
Also many admin jobs will specify that being able to Arabic is needed.
I hope that you have not taken my comments as too negative - just wish to be honest about the situation here.
