Advice wanted on Qatar job offer please

Hi

I have an offer from a Big 4 firm in Doha, Qatar to join as an Assistant Manager in a permanent role. I need to respond to this offer in the next day or so.

The offer I have is presented below. All figures below are monthly figures in QAR.

14,500 Base salary (about 2,500 GBP at current exchange rates)
500 Transport allowance
6,500 Accommodation allowance
Medical insurance included
Total 21,500

Is this is a reasonable offer?

What do people think of the transport and accommodation allowance?

I am currently working as an Assistant Manager at a Big 4 accounting firm in the Corporate Tax department in London. I qualified earlier this year as a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Adviser. I am a UK national.

My current total post tax salary is around the 29k GBP mark. I am living with parents so don’t have any rent/mortgage to worry about!

Please feel free to offer any other useful advice you may have!

Thanks alot.

In addition to the above I have a few other details on the package:- There is an annual return flight to the UK- Annual leave is 30 days which is more than the 25 days I get in the UK (though I assume there are fewer public holidays in Qatar?)- The annual bonus is usually in the range of 1 or 2 months salaryThe employer is not willing to negotiate any elements of the package. At the moment I am leaning towards taking the alternative option of the 2 year secondment to Kuwait with my current firm as it gives me the security of returning to my current UK job should I not want to continue the Middle East experience. However, I can't be certain of this until my employer gives me full details on the package on offer.

search and you will find the accomodation costs. if you have plans for the long term buy a vehicle instead of renting. at the end of the day you may save around 5000 rials per month based on conservative estimates.

Not an easy choice, as an accountant, i think this is a OK decent starting offer, nothing exceptional and on the lower end of the scale, with that said, it is still considered to be a great offer when considering the tax free here in Qatar, if you are willing to spend 1-2 years and gain GCC experience , things will get much better..good luck

You have no idea how right you are.  Spain is folding under from the Economy, but I know people who'd rather stay there than have a decent job outside of Europe. It's just a happier place!

I understand life is different to London but as a Muslim myself the drink and nightlife won't be missed! My main issue is the accommodation. I currently don't pay any rent as I live with parents in London. If the accommodation allowance of 6,500 isn't enough I will end up losing money making the move compared to my current situation.Additionally the transport allowance is 500. From what I read car rentals are at least 1500 a month so this won't cover that.I am not fussy about accommodation as long as I am not hours away from the office and have a nice furnished place.Ideally I want the move to be financially worth it so that I save more than I do in the UK (I guess I save around 1300-1400 GBP a month at the moment which will be 7-8000 QAR).Will my package cover my needs or should I be pushing for more?As an alternative, I may have the option of a 2 year secondment with my current firm to Kuwait (with some time possibily in Saudi). The salary will probably be at a similar level or even a little higher but I haven't been told of the other possible benefits such as accommodation so it is difficult for me to compare the offers at the moment.
