Is 9000 riyals a month a decent salary?

Hi,

I am an online marketing executive (SEO) and I have 3 years experience in online marketing in English, French and Arabic. I earn 9000 riyals as a basic salary and I am given free accommodation by the company (a government institution). Currently I am staying in a 4-star hotel and after three months I will move to an upmarket two-bedroom apartment, which means that I am pretty much satisfied with the accommodation. However, I find the salary a bit below my competences. 15000 or even 12000 would have been fairer.

I have been told that after the probationary period, I might get additional allowances (up to 3000). What do you think about that? Is it the norm here for someone with 3 years experience? Does the private sector offer more?

Thanks Marker. My salary is good for me compared to other expats. But I came across the payslip of a Qatari colleague whose grade is probably inferior to mine, and I can tell you my salary is peanuts compared to his.

Sorry, I forgot that you mention you're working in a government institution... Your salary is higher still and decent one at present in your situation...

It's higher friend than many others working here in Doha... If your company is British or American company then it's a great company to stay.. QR9,0000 + free accommodation at present is a pretty one...then after your probation..your salary will be incremented..Just try to enjoy first your present salary (highter than many others) and give thanks to God about it always...Then you'll have higher salary that you desired..

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully the salary will get better. I recognize though that 9000 is not bad. I can pretty much afford to buy good stuff and save some money.

definitely a decent one. Check with your compatriot here, if their salary is almost the same, then I think it's fine. In the first place, 3 years is not a big deal, so try to increase your experience and maybe, you don't need to ask, they will give you an increment!
