I agree with muhandis. If you again go through the question sometimes it looks that he is telling us that he got this offer. But sometimes it seems he is looking for reply/answer. This is after all english of syrian-version. My first experience.

Muhandis, this is a public forum. If he cant ask here where can he ask? If he doesnt live here who will he personally ask? Is this route not faster? He can get many varied opinions here rather than a one off.

Sorry... To be honest, it seems to me that this guy didn't do research before asking the question. I feel a little bit sorry since many Qlers don't even earn half of it. I personally prefer this kind of question to be asked personally since there are so many Syrian here in Doha.

Muhandis, as he is coming to work in an arabic country maybe he is coming to work in an arabic company?

I really wish the language bashing would stop. I can imagine this guys English is 90% better than most ex-pats arabic.

You know Genesis, even the government schools are better than a lot of the international. Al Bayan for girls is amazing, and they were one of the only school in the middle east to won a microsoft award a few years back for a school project they submitted.

Arabic school doesn’t necessary means government schools. There are many options (MOE independent schools, The Jordanian school, The Egyptian school, Lebanese school & many more)

Plus if his employer is one of the government corporations, The education is covered for 3 children, 30K/year each

By Amoud• 18 Jan 2009 12:42
Amoud

FS, not true... Syrians generally send their kids to arabic school, you may work with it but I live with it... Damascus University only teaches in arabic, and the other option is the American University.

And just out of curiousity, what makes the international schools better than the arabic? You are deluded on this point.

All these Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian people who work with me send their children to English schools. Everyone want to give the best education to their children..I guess that’s the only real wealth we are give to our kids.

FS, doesnt matter, even if he has to pay for a flat it is a good salary.

35,000 is not a good salary? Where in the name of God do you guys work? He can spend 12,000 on a flat (Syrians typically live in flats, especially Damascene), 2,500 on a car, medical is free (you guys can be toads sometimes, give the guy a break). Education in arabic schools doesnt even compare to the cost if international schools. Do the math.

In Syria, 35,000 is a fortune and you cant convert it to lira and compare as the cost if living doesnt even come close to being similar.

He asked for assistance and you guys made fun? I thought QL wasnt about that?? tsk tsk

Dear how many family members you have? 35000 inclusive all (housing, medical, education, transport, daily used items, shopping, ) it seems not good to me. Although some guys who are getting much less in this forum are willing you to join. Anyway, finally it is upto you. I can only advise you

coolcatdoha....good find..

And that thread has the opposite answers....lol

Compare your salary to the cost of living here:

http://www.qatarliving.com/answers/cost-of-living/how-much-should-i-expect-to-save-in-20000-pm

I say its good ....unless you want to stay in a single-villa-compound with swimming pool, sauna, landscaped gardens & helipad.....

If you plan to stay in a 2 to 3 room appartment take it!

Figure not an attractive one. Education and housing are very expensive. Earn and burn you cannot save. Think and think before you act.

Keeping aside the humor of some of above replies and fortunate driver earning 40K and lady who missed last zero of your salary.

You should provide more detail for a helpfull answer, example your area of expertise, Oil & Gas , Construction etc.

Broadly speaking, it is a good salary for Engineer with 11 year experience but it depends on your present lifestyle as well.

From the forum you can get info on accommodation cost etc that will be your single major expense other than that it is quite usual.
