1) Average salary

1) What's the average salary drawn by Indian professionally qualified expats in Qatar?
2) Is QR 20,000 enough for a small family?

Any helpful inputs would be appreciated.

Fareed, Welcome to Doha. We moved from Dubai last month n have now adjusted to the slow life in Doha. One good thing about this place is there is no parking meter. Also if u have a car that is less than 2 yrs old, i suggest u get it to Doha as second hand car is expensive here as compared to Dubai.

hey fareed,

welcome to doha...if you are from dubai then no probs just come in and enjoy doha. when i came here for the first time it was quite weird for me. Now things are getting settled accept for the whooping traffic fines if it happens that if you cross a red light. 6000QAR...no wonder people sees the traffic lights as the horror plot and the tall outcropped camera as the real ghost ;)....just kidding...drive to the laws everything is fine over here! once again welcome to your second home:))).

Dear SUBTRUPS, VINITHS, NOMS and FARFROMEYES ....

Thank you for sharing your valuable experience and for the indicative numbers. Its a big help.

Actually I'll be moving from Dubai so all documents etc. are already attested, I have Saudi as well as UAE drivers licenses so I guess that should result in some convenience in Qatar.

I may ask for your advice again when I land there (if things go well). Thanks again!

INDIANTOTY, you definitely didn't understand the simple question these guys have so kindly answered ... or maybe u were just here to poke uninvited pun. Either way, you're just wasting valuable space.

Well, if he is getting a non-local contract, then in that case he will be provided with accomodation and other benefits. Therefore, it will be more than enough

one more thing , as an additional info

make sure that all your documents are attested and ratified by ministry of foreign affairs ,New delhi.

Educational certificates

marriage certificates

birth certificate for your baby etc

here the formalities are a bit more compared to other countries.

Your Resident ppermit may take around three weeks from the date you land here. Your wife's visa as well as your kid's visa should be in your name so after that only you can process theirs. So you should be extra careful in your documentation. There are other ways to bring your wife and kids faster. But it will be added expenses.

hiya,

I think i'll put forth some of my experience since i've recently moved into qatar in similar terms as you are.

for me its me and my wife only.

But from my experience you might be incurring the expenses as follows

A. rent : 6500 (Two bedroom; fully furnished)

B. Car : 2000 ( Nissan TIIDA type)

C. Petrol : 200 (80 dhs/litre)

D. Provision : 1800

E. Electricity & water : 250

F. Internet : 200

G. Telephone : 200

TOTAL 11,150

Thats it . these are the compulsory expenses. with the rest of your pay you can either save or doha is a great place for shopping and eating out. Items A&B can vary as per your taste and choice.

If you need to be still in a posh atmosphere and drive around a posh car then this will drastically vary.

There are certain initial expenses which you need to be very careful about.

for renting out houses the agents can ask one month rent as commision and one month rent as advance.

If you are new to GCC then taking a license will be a little bit expensive. probably about 4000QAR.

I hope all the visa expenses and tickets to hoem town and medical for family and self is included in the package.

What do you mean average, this is a meaningless number, eg the average of 0 and 10,000 is 5000... does this tell you anything, I suggest not.

You should aim to achieve the highest salary that you can negotiatate and then decide whether this is acceptable.

Easy....

20K is a decent amt as of now. As the rents have fallen, you can have a decent 2BHK within 5-6K per mth, get ASDL connection n calls to ur home country will be cheaper thru VOIP. Hence u will save a lot on telephone bills. Monthly household expenses will be max 3K including utility bills. Plus u have an infant that means no school fees till ur child turns 3. You can easily save minimum 8k per month.

I guess my phrasing wasn't clear enough. So here goes ...

I have a very small family, (wife, one infant and yours truly).

Would be getting an all inclusive package of 20,000.

Is this amount sufficient for a family like mine (Indian) to live a normal (standard) life and save something as well?

I don't know how it matters but since someone asked ... I am an engineer with considerable experience.

Hope its a lot clearer now... So please advise.

Thanks.

It's definitely not "more than enough". If you consider a decent 3 bedroom villa will cost you at least half of your salary, school fees, transportation, electricity, water, ... you will be able to just make it.

I dont know what your profession is as well as the level, but 20 000 is more than enough

That would largely depend on the vocation.

Doctor?

Engineer?

Accountant?
