Hugging A Female Friend

Hi friends,
I am meeting my childhood female friend after many years in Qatar. She is also an expat like me. Will I be arrested or land in trouble if I greet her with a hug?

But let us know when the greeting, lip lock etc is happening so we can go take a photo and send it in to the markaz shurtah.

I don't understand this question at all. I would always greet friends (male or female) with a kiss on the cheek and a hug. It's not a big deal unless you make it one.

Hugging a person of the opposite sex is not an issue at all if done as a greeting, even in a public place. I see a lot of people hugging each other (even opp sex) as a way of greeting and as long as it's done decently, you won't have a problem.

I was glad you picked me up from the airport, but the reason people stared was because you were wearing your bicycle clips on your lungi and you hugged me from behind :o(

Hugging Is fine be it in Mall or Airport or Car.... Just not start Kissing openly... ;)

..i don't think it's a huge moral issue. A friendly hug looks different than something lustfully done...hehehe, you have to do the first one.

Well i think around the Doha its fine! As long as they don't start kissing in public

I have hugged my wife when she arrived at the airport . Didn't have a problem. My wife and I hold hands whilst walking at the corniche - never had a problem.

Only trolls ask such questions.

in this part of the world, fewer inquiries like this will come. Only individuals of the same gender kissing & hugging in public are normally seen and accepted. otherwise, you will raise most people eyebrows.

c'mon... this is a hug we are talking about... not sex... is this country that far gone?

A hug and a friendly kiss is not going to be a problem... i'm sure of it.

I do not think anybody gives a damn about what you do when you are sure that u r not doing anything wrong.

As far as hugging in public at the airport... nobody will care. But do restrict yourself to hugging only. Check wikipedia about definition of 'HUG". Different country has many different ways of hugging which may be little akward here. Just be decent and life will be good.

Physical show of love/affection towards each other by adult opposite sexes in public is something that should to be avoided in Qatar for obvious reasons.

If the reason was not obvious, you wouldn't have asked this question.

yes better to avoid hugging in public...even holding hands...

By anonymous• 13 Aug 2012 19:56

I prefer to avoid in other public settings, you can never be sure of these things.
