Hi friends,
I am meeting my childhood female friend after many years in Qatar. She is also an expat like me. Will I be arrested or land in trouble if I greet her with a hug?
I don't understand this question at all. I would always greet friends (male or female) with a kiss on the cheek and a hug. It's not a big deal unless you make it one.
Hugging a person of the opposite sex is not an issue at all if done as a greeting, even in a public place. I see a lot of people hugging each other (even opp sex) as a way of greeting and as long as it's done decently, you won't have a problem.
I was glad you picked me up from the airport, but the reason people stared was because you were wearing your bicycle clips on your lungi and you hugged me from behind :o(
brite problem here is she is not his wife but his girlfriend who he has missed her in a carnival now meeting after a long gap so he is confused how to hug her as a kid or an adult...............lols
I remember when i hugged britey when he was back from London after watching olympics where he was selling popcorns and all the security at airport were starring at us...:(
I have hugged my wife when she arrived at the airport . Didn't have a problem. My wife and I hold hands whilst walking at the corniche - never had a problem.
in this part of the world, fewer inquiries like this will come. Only individuals of the same gender kissing & hugging in public are normally seen and accepted. otherwise, you will raise most people eyebrows.
I do not think anybody gives a damn about what you do when you are sure that u r not doing anything wrong.
As far as hugging in public at the airport... nobody will care. But do restrict yourself to hugging only. Check wikipedia about definition of 'HUG". Different country has many different ways of hugging which may be little akward here. Just be decent and life will be good.
Physical show of love/affection towards each other by adult opposite sexes in public is something that should to be avoided in Qatar for obvious reasons.
If the reason was not obvious, you wouldn't have asked this question.

& even a Lip Lock won't do any harm.... ;)
It's no biggie, go on and welcome your friend with a hug :D
troll?
@Rizks: ROFL!
Say, when are we meeting to try out those special greetings :-D
Thanks TB, it's only a flying visit though :-)
I save my special greetings for you Colt :-P
you never greeted me that way... is it because I'm a smelly Indian :-(
O course Rizks, but only if you promise to wear your lungi, you know how that drives me wild ;-)
If hug her you will get arrested and your head will be detached from the rest of your body.
snessy can we meet today for a nice hot cuppa Karak chai ? :)

yes really funny question hahahahahaha
I remember when i hugged britey when he was back from London after watching olympics where he was selling popcorns and all the security at airport were starring at us...:(
hahaahahahahahhahahaha .. Funny Question Asked :D
Hugging Is fine be it in Mall or Airport or Car.... Just not start Kissing openly... ;)
..i don't think it's a huge moral issue. A friendly hug looks different than something lustfully done...hehehe, you have to do the first one.
Well i think around the Doha its fine! As long as they don't start kissing in public

Only trolls ask such questions.

to make sure that his wife is being conveyed his intensions
Why do people ask such questions :o(
i think in the airport it's ok..
would your wife agree to it?
Yes go ahead but make sure you draw the line there.
c'mon... this is a hug we are talking about... not sex... is this country that far gone?
A hug and a friendly kiss is not going to be a problem... i'm sure of it.
I do not think anybody gives a damn about what you do when you are sure that u r not doing anything wrong.

yes better to avoid hugging in public...even holding hands...
I prefer to avoid in other public settings, you can never be sure of these things.
Thanks. But in other situations? Meeting and saying goodbye in public.
Hug her, its ok at the airport
