In the last 2 days I have seen five accidents on the streets. This is a clip from a Russian campaign against traffic violations. We need something like this in Qatar. Words are definitely not enough.
It is right that in such accident if the parents were hurt so badly like that, the kid should be already dead. That would be the first impression that these people here will get watching this video. The point is if you had such an accident and died ... to whom will you leave your children? What future should they expect, living without their parents especially in this age?
It is more than just an accident, the poor guy died and that is it, let god be with his kids and wife. It is more about destroying a whole family life because of these accidents.
So please, you don't want this to happen to your family or to the others families. Drive safe, and thank god that you have a vehicle to go from your work to home, to other places. Other people do not have cars, but still happy. Don't let this gift destroy your life as well as the others.
the way to solve this problem is if the law is enforced strictly. in the states there are strict laws which are enforced and it works. images of accidents don't do any good. they are are just like the smoking warning posters which people walk by while smoking.
I was once going in my landcruiser. The speed limit on the road was 120 and I was probably going on 125-130. This mercedes car comes from behind and starts honking and flashing lights. I kept on going and didn;t give him way so he came infront of me and became dead slow. So I overtake him from the other lane and came infront of him and decreased me speed to 40. Next was his turn and he came infront. We kept on playing this game for about 30 minutes. Then i realized he is going to follow me all the way to my home. So i stopped my car near a petrol station and waited for him to come to me but he just stayed in car and left after standing at the petrol station for 30 minutes. Rules to Remember
Never go to the other person to ask him whats bothering him coz this means you went for a fight. let him come to you. Be brave at all times even its a cop.
When the traffic light becomes red, nails should pop out of the road, on the white line, so that anyone who passes will need to spend a thousand or more, on new tires.
I was going to suggest a rail that pops out of the floor, but no nails are more realistic :P.
And for speeders, i think that more than 1 speed cam is needed on main roads, coz from my experience, i saw lots of ppl going more than 140 km/h and then slowing down before and after the speed cam and then speeding up again.
And last but not least, and people who have been to the UAE, especially dubai can back me up, is that Ashghal should build speed bumps at traffic lights, which makes it safer for pedestrians to pass by, and ensure that cars slow down, ofcourse taking into consideration to extend the time limit given by the traffic light itslef because motion of cars will be slower than usual with the presence of the speed bumps.
Good to have you back? Where have you been? I have missed your posts which are often the best on this site. I was worried that one of two things had happened to you.
1. That you had met your match in a karate fight and were recovering somewhere from your injuries and were unable to use your fingers.
2. Even more alarming, I was worried that you may have got a new job that actually required you to do some work, thereby depriving us of your wit.
I hope you don't take your work too seriously and that we will hear much more from you now that you are back.

The traffic campaign here is causing more accidents by putting signs that make u read while driving taking your eyes off the road!!!
Some show pictures of accidents and the slogan sais in arabic "we are all responsible"
I personally dont like it because i am not responsible for anything!! Dont try to rub some blame on me, i drive slow to work(when i actually do go to work) and back home when the traffic has cleared even slower.
Why am i responsible? How can i stop a Landcruiser that thinks its racing in the F-1 or Nascar??
I just keep my trips to a minimum and if i get hit by a reckless driver then he better kill me or else he will wish he had died in the accident before i got to him.
Recently, One day in the morning driving to the office for home at around 7.45am. was driving towards Ramada from Toyota. I was near Muntaza pertol station and tour to tje slip road. suddnenly a police petrol car was behind me blinking flash lights and sirens. I gave way as I thought it was some emergency and let him past. when he overtook me and my wife had a good look inside his car to determine what was going on. We found............(later) . He did this all the way until he passed the trafic light. He even got down from the police car and scold the poor dirvers who coun't find enough space to let him go through.
You know who was in side the police car " a kid in his school uniform and the kid may be his or his boss'es and he use his police privilages reserved for emergencies to avoid waiting in the queue and send the kid to the school hassle free.
SL I heared a lot about the attitude of some police officers, but your story is really something else, not only he did the wrong thing but he was also trying to terrorize you .....really sucks, can't beleive that these people are supposed to be out there to protect the law and set an example for others
Waahahaha! The police here are clueless, they do not indicate, speed, weave through lanes, are rude, observe people at roundabouts IN THE WRONG LANE and do nothing about it. We are all going to die on these roads!!
I recently heard that you can buy a driving licence in Doha!!
One hell of a video...And have to laugh at the microscopic signs put up at certain roads here showing graphic accidents. like who cane see them???? But such is the traffic awareness campaign
I have my own medicine for them. Normally I drive on the centre lane. if somebody honk me from behind I reduce the speed and drive even slower. if he hits me from behind that's his fault so either he has to take right lane or left lane to overtake me. that's his problem and I don't care.
Once I was driving in E ring road fron abu hamur to trafic police at air port. if you are coming from abu hamur you have to go all the way to trafic light at airport- Wakra road to make a u-turn to go to police station. i was about 200m to the Traficlight and was in the extreme left lane to make the u-turn. suddenly a big land cruiser was behind me and flashed his head lights and honk at me to say get out of my way. I had my signal light on and he knew I was going for a u-turn. I didn't give way to him as i was doing the right thing. he did indicate for me to get out his way another 2 times and I ignored him. Then he over took me from right and Alas hs is a cop in full uniform and in a civilian land cruser and indicated to me to stop. OK i pulled over and stoped. he stoped behind me and asked for my licence. Gave it to him he wrote down the no. Then told me "is this the way you driving? I will teach you to drive once I get back to the station. Then I said to him OH YEH you want to teach me driving. Thanks for the offer but No Thanks and do whatever you can I am waiting" and lastly I told him remeber I was in the extreme left lane to make a u turn which is the trafic rule here.
Now I am waiting for his free driving lessons for the past 4 months and no contact yet. waiting and counting days.......
SL you are so right....the drivers who keep horning once the traffic light turn green, or those who increase their speed when they see someone is trying to cross the street are the biggest evidence...no video or campain can change that
Qatarblue you are right, it is the most annoying behaviour for me too, a friend of mine do the same as you, moreover he slow down and turn the parking lights on :)))))
I have been here for about two weeks now and i noticed that most drivers are driving with high temper and hands are always over the horn..some patians and manners will realy help..
The most annoying is when they come from behind at full speed with lights flashing, then drive so close to almost touch yor bumper/fender that they put you in danger ( never mind themselves, but who cares)
I simply refuse to move over and slow down, althoug I usually get a mouthful in arabic or gesture of some kind at the next lights/roundabout (which is met with silence and a smile) but the message is delivered.
Wouldn't work here. They would be wondering what that crazy thing the little girl is buckled into is. She should be the one gone through the windsheild with 5 of her siblings to really make an impact here.

I saw a stupid sign on the road today. It had a red border and was round, in the middle was the number 60. What does this mean ? No one seemed to pay any attention. Do you have to be under 60 years old to use that road ?
Yeah I beleive this will be far more effective than the stupid signs they are putting on all traffic lights these days, beside being naieve and silly, you will get used to them and hardly notice them after a while
we need a harsher set of penalties for moving violations. For example, mandatory jail time for repeat offenders, car impoundment and costly storage, suspension of driving privileges with prison term for driving with a suspended licenses, and the like. We also need a strong public education program to remind drivers of the rules and courtesy rules and to let them know the penalties set by law for violations. Of course, all that will not be needed if we had a little more courtesy and respect for others
For those who don't understand Russian (which I believe is a majority on this site) - the narrator says "buckle up or you will be buckled up yourself".

The kid on the video is buckled up. Parents were not. And of course remember this is a campaign video, not the real life one.
It is right that in such accident if the parents were hurt so badly like that, the kid should be already dead. That would be the first impression that these people here will get watching this video. Always give way.
And my suggestion is for traffic lights only.

Yes ... i got your sarcasm. Typical British sarcasm.

Wait for another miilion years for that to happen. Patiants and Manners are taboo words here.

then,I agree with you
It really kills me to see people just drive on their own ruls, never pay attention to others or respect of any kind.
Still wish the safety for everyone
Is sarcasm lost on you ? I was making that point !
If you are careful enough to study the traffic signs before driving a car, you would understand it. It says that the speed limit is 60.
got that?
If people follow the sign or not, this is not the sign's mistake. It's the crazy drivers'
I wish the safety for everyone
