DOHA: The Department of Traffic and Patrol said yesterday it had plans to soon install radars at every traffic intersection in and around Doha city to prevent motorists from violating speed limits. “We are awaiting fresh stocks of radars to arrive. As soon as we get them we will be installing them at each and every intersection,” Brigadier Mohamed Marfia, from the safety wing of the traffic and patrol department, told this newspaper.

When told that motorists had a field day in the Musherib area, especially, and were jumping traffic lights, he said: “We are aware and we are soon going to install radars there too.”

The violators will be caught and punished as per the provisions of the traffic law.

When reminded that the Musherib locality, which is popularly known as the National Area, was earmarked for demolition in about a year from now to pave way for modern structures and amenities, the official said: “We know that and when the demolitions begin we would naturally be taking the radars away from
the roads there.”

But as long as the structures in the area are not demolished and the vehicular traffic is moving on its busy roads with motorists flouting traffic rules, radars are a necessity, said Marfia.

Jumping traffic lights is one of the major traffic violations and a major cause of increasing road accidents in the country.

Roundabouts are very good and increase the speed of traffic flow, provided that they are used properly and with consideration for other drivers/road users.

Where got consideration for other drivers/road users in Doha?!

I`ll eleminate all who drive 1.3 from my road, i`m fed up from your panic driving & if you come here for driving slowly then you better go back to any place with high price petrol it will be normal then not here.

charan---if i'm going from villagio or hyatt going to salwa road, how can i minimized my travel time esp in the morning(rush hr)?

My concern is just to have an equal chance of getting to our destination in our budgeted time...one more thing, r/a causes a lot of accidents isn't it??? putting traffic light and cameras will maybe lessen it, if not eliminate at all...;)

i hope they will put traffic lights in the roundabouts especially in 'qatar decoration' r/a so that every car has an equal opportunity to pass through.. ..traffic is so heavy there...

i hope they will these cameras will truly detect 'all' violators and not only the few....;)

I think that people driving too slowly should also be fined...driving at 40 or 60kmph in the fast or middle lane is also dangerous, in my opinion. other road users get frustrated and end up executing dodgy manouevres to over/undertake them which is when the mahem starts

if you're driving slowly, then go in the slow lane...that's what it's for

hold on PPl

all our sport cars suffer from low speed, why more radars while speed limit is just 80 & signals full of panic drivers blocking all the way, how can we be like UAE if there is not speed test roads,if we can`t have a V8 cars in Qatar which Fuel is less than water so where we can get it, wake up & get wise.

putting more cameras is a good thing they should do...less violators may be expected....:)

but should they put all roads with it? there are no traffic lights in all parts of the road....these road violators have attitude problems i think and can't be cured by these cameras :(
