A friend of mine just found out he might be transferred to Yemen. Can anyone let me know what it's like there?

I loveeeeeeeee Yemen.. The people are soo warm and friendly. And an interesting fact about Yemenii is that many are actually mixed with indian. One of my best friends is 4th generation gujrati indian yemeni. And many of dishes are a mix of arab and toned down indian spices.

the people are extremely humble, giving, caring, friendly and like others have said.. it is a very under developed country which I think adds to its charms.

One can rent a house for sooooooooo cheap, food is extremely cheap, and everything is realllllllllllllly cheap.

Okay the negative side is that their are alot of jihaadis in yemen. And you have to be very careful with all the con artists after your western money. As we  say in America.. they will juice you the first chance they get.

as well a few times and found the people polite and welcoming.  I got lost in a market place one day (turned myself around and couldn't find my way back) and a lovely Yememi lady and her two teenae sons walked me back to my hotel and the lads even carried my shopping for me. Although they didn't speak much English, they kept smiling and nodding to everything I tried to say in Arabic.  In the few times I've been there over the past 10 years I never had a bad experience.  Hope this is a little helpful.

Cheers,

Molly

"She always held a soft spot in her heart for Yemen because their development has been so delayed."

So your friend may have a very very soft heart about Bangladesh if she is alive :)

I am not a pretty girl, that is not what I do, I ain't no damsel in distress and I don't need to be rescued. So put me down punk, I'm not a maiden fair, maybe there's a kitten stuck up a tree somewhere." Ani Difranco

Why thinking of going to start a "Yemani Happening" ?

I wonder what job opportunities would be there for a Western woman.
