YELLOW BOX Ticket happy traffic cop
A little over three hours ago, around 11.20pm I was driving with my family on Al Saad Street to the Centerpoint Mall, when towards the end of the street the road converged and there were signs stating LEFT LANE CLOSED. Naturally all the cars were jammed bumper to bumper trying to file into a single lane and to make matters worse this was a T junction so basically it was a chaos. In the middle of all of that there was this traffic cop who instead of guiding the traffic to ensure a smooth flow was busy issuing all the poor motorists tickets because we were on the “YELLOW BOX” (his words).
I and at least 50 other motorists were all stuck in that mess that was only inching forward were slapped on our faces with tickets. We were all shocked at the action of this policeman which was totally uncalled for and did not make any sense as it was obvious to everyone (including himself I’m sure) that there was no room for cars to move ahead but he just refused to reason with anyone including locals.
Has anyone else faced this unfortunate situation here in Doha? Any tips to handle it; how can I challenge the ticket that was issued? I really do not wish to pay a hefty fine for no good reason.
