Would you fly in a pilotless plane ?

The future is here.. Although I personaly do not see the point of a pilotless passenger craft..

Question: Would you fly in such an aircrft?

___________

AN unmanned plane has flown in British airspace for the first time — paving the way for pilotless passenger flights.

The BAE Jetstream executive craft travelled 300 miles from Warton, Lancs, to Inverness in Scotland.

A ground-based pilot manoeuvred the plane using a computer.

A BAE director said: “We are writing a new chapter in aviation history. Unmanned aircraft are likely to become a part of everyday life in the near future.”

More trials will be carried out in the next five years after the success of last month’s flight.

Thats sucide. Provided all passengers are holy, insurance are not required to fly.

Future?

I ain't goin to let a 15 year-old bored pimply teenager hack the system and took me for an hour spin before deciding he had enough and Kamikaze-d me and the rest of the passengers on someone's backyard.

Oh, and Hans Solo piloted his own aircraft, just sayin'

Brit, initially I feel people would suffer from a lot of anxiety and may not feel comfortable at all..especially those who would understand what all could go wrong.

Like you said about hackers or problems like malfunctioning of the computers at their interface due to some virus attack could result in a crash.

I am scared of heights...So naturally i suffer from PLANE PHOBIA..:)))...I hold my breath till i reach my destination...I can't express the horror in my face when i travel from DOHA to MUMBAI...I literally pray hard when the time of LANDING comes...:D

So to think to fly in a PILOT LESS plane, i think i would DIE before boarding..:P

LLR "would be run and compiled by an algorithm of all the previous accidents"

It is smart to learn from "previous accidents" but what about the New ones that didn't happen before?!

This is what i was talking about

You bring up an interesting point..

If the planes are being controlled from the ground, can "hackers" then take over the flight ?

By Knight Returns• 13 May 2013 10:48

Scary but I guess this will stop plane hijacks..

Eitherway if the planes goes down , the pilot error or mechanical problems always to blame, it took so many years to analize the data since all records taken from flightbox system data recorders , if we will not adhere to computer datas since its erroneos then no other option but pilot error and mechanical problems usually they believe what the computer analize.

iam not interested in this pilotless plane if there is no cabin crew....:(

By landloverreview• 13 May 2013 09:33

I think a computer connected with a satellite would predict almost all the possible situations quickly and more accurately.. the basic concept here is the AI-artificial intelligence which would be run and compiled by an algorithm of all the previous accidents (cause effects actions) however I am not denying the presence of a real physical pilot..

By Rizks• 13 May 2013 09:25

NO, then we would wished for a Pilot to fly the plane...:( but it will be too late then...

"Fuzzy Error"

Was something we were studying at the college, it means that the types of errors that the plane might face is fuzzy, and when they program an auto-pilot they can't predict all problems that might happen, So the plane might face an error that never happened before and in this situation the plane will be out of control ,, then what?

Brite we already have pilotless aircraft those jumbo planes already using auto pilots , only the pilot sitting, sometime sleeping after ploting the charts all its coordinates to its distinations and landing also they make auto landing procedure since its accurate guages readings than humans. Sitting pretty, only they do manual if weather is bad. But removing the lazy pilots may be good to minimize cost for pilots. Pilots on these days doesnt know how to fly planes they refer to manuals always then pushing color coded buttons and switches if wrong the computer said , your have pressed the wrong button please eject from your sit... Lol

I second Lonious.. we have already auto pilot option from decades... If they have passed the security standards I am sure they have some advanced technologies which will show you exactly where when how to land considering the situations and I think they also have considered emergency situations...In emergencies Pilots are more prone to lose their control or lose their mind than computers..however considering the risk of system failures it is better to have one or two emergency pilots.

The point behind this is not clear ,,, Is it a cost control plan?, As they will not pay anymore for the pilot and his assistant.

Anyway i don't think it is a good idea, the Human pilot should be in the plane in case of emergencies as the other QLers said before.

It will be confusing if they got a Blue screen like the one we got when the Windows is damaged, This time it means "You are all dead" :O(

It will surely be the future of flying pilot less whether we agree on it or not. As Thelo pointed out all flights fly on Autopilot, pilots are just there to give us take off and landing information in their not so understandable language.

It is the future of flying however more should be put into passenger safety rather. Anything can go wrong with mechanics. However no one can replace an actual pilot. Watch the movie Flight :)
