From the Huffington Post:

World's Worst Tourists? British Take the Crown Hands Down

This just in: As the news breaks that British of all stripes celebrated last week's royal wedding by evacuating the country and enjoying a jolly holiday abroad, a new poll's been released that, I'm sorry to say, ranks U.K. travelers the "World's Worst Tourists."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-mandel/worlds-worst-tourists-bri_b_8...

The poll is a bit basic, but interesting for conversation. The French ranked BEHIND the British, Americans, Germans and Russians for rudeness!

Quite right Mike S. Americans are well known for their sense of adventure and exploration, how dare anyone suggest that 90% of Americans do not own a passport and of those that do only a few % actually have been outside of the good old U S of A!!!

Baldrick, Americans DO travel A LOT outside the U.S. for example: Miami, California, Hawaii and Puerto Rico

:)

send your wife there for a few months and become a summer bachelor (citing work commitments), if that does not work and she is still insisting on them coming, put a time line on it (2 weeks say), offer to pay their airfares and of course book the flights and what I did was calmly explain to my husband that if they stayed for any longer I would not be able to control what I said to his mother and it could cause a family rift so it was best all round for them to come for short bursts.

Oh sure, plenty of room for compromise. Allowing them to come for lengthy visits means we never have to go there for holidays. I'm just trying to think of ways to come out ahead on the deal.

Everyone has a choice in everything they do, it is called compromising and failing that putting your foot down.

By frenchieman• 12 May 2011 10:24

Yes, that might work for you, but I am the husband who has not choice in the matter.

no no no - that has got to stop, I allow them to come once a year for a week. As I told my husband it is for their own sake, as violence would be committed and I could not be held responsible

Oh God no! I'd live here forever under the no visas for old people rule if that was being threatened.

They don't live with me. It's after five years of marriage (and the in-law visits).

Unfortunately, there is no age restriction for visas-on-arrival from their home country, which means regular and lengthy visits.

F/man, please don't tell me that they live with you - I would lose the will to live

By frenchieman• 12 May 2011 10:06

Too late for that for me. We have the boy, but my wife has too many brothers and sisters with kids.

And I am worried that the 'crisis at work' game plan is getting a little old after five years :-(

good move - another one is to have their only grandchild so far (and a boy which they secretly prefer but would never say so), so I hold all the Aces

What's your secret? Mine are always amazed by the long hours and weekends I work when they visit :-)

Upfront--Yes, of course. He's the iconic French man. No way I would put Sarkozy.

jjj75--but would they win if they came to visit as house guests?

Frenchiemen, I have a question. Nothing to do with this post. Is your profile picture Gerard Depardieu by any chance? Looks like him. Sorry for hijacking. :)

Nope, my in-laws (or should I say out laws) would not win, they are in UK, I am here - perfect arrangement for me!

They were annoyed that I did not serve top notch french wine (who can afford such stuff here anyway) and rejected my perfectly acceptable spanish - c'est la vie, they were not invited over again to chez moi

Yawn not new news - then again I have seen some incredibly rude French people too on my holidays and in my own house - perhaps we should have a category for rudest houseguests???

Have to agree on the Germans and their towels. Never go on a cruise with lots of Germans.

The French scored low on rudest only because it was asking about French tourists, who usually very nice. The French save the rudeness for when they are dealing with tourists in their country.

I think that's MOST Germans at the resorts!

Apologies Brit, the British were NOT ranked rudest (the one category in which they were not ranked the worst). They were, however, ranked worse than the French!

O comeon Frenchie.. We all know the German top the list with the Sun loungers Towel placing! One German fella used to put his towel at early hours of the morning!

The Poll says that The Russians were tops for Rudeness - not the British.

I would agree on the language and food aspect, but it probabaly applies for most nations.

Drunkeness - Yep!
