There is a saying in Indian architecture...."Its impossible to stop water...One cannot reclaim land from the sea...sooner or later Water always claims its "Level" and you have to learn to respect the power of water.

Its like if you reclaim one spot...water swallows equal amount of land in some other place.

But the Islands are not sinking....the work on them seems to have halted....Thats why its "Jagged"...The press is spreading rumours....and confusing people by linking the Dubai Ports World Company with the DPW's World project .....no wonder the Sheikh is livid!!

we live on the skin of a world, we know very little about what goes on beyond about 7 km below our feet (not an expert. correct me) what we think we know is based on theories and experience. Seeing that the skin of an apple is far thicker relatively than the solid earths crust, only an idiot would be certain about the future. Volcanos and earthquakes have happened where no history of siesmic activity has been recorded. Why? because we have been recording things for about 5000 years, earth works in terms of millions of years.

actually not only The Pearl but all other structures built on reclaimed areas.

IMO, the part of a structure even if reclaimed but attached to mainland is little safer than structures built on complete reclaimed areas far from the mainland. Really admired the gutsiness and bravery of consultants for such huge projects that involves higher risks. Of course, current development on modern techniques might perfect the design but the risks will always be there. The water is always unpredictable!
