How long does it usually take for a visa to come through? The company I am going to be working for applied for a Visa around 5/6 weeks ago and we are still waiting?
randr88, are you still waiting in US? are you waiting for the working visa (PR) or for the visa to get into qatar? coz to get into Qatar you don't need visa as an american citizen, so you still can come over here and wait for your working visa here in qatar, if that Ok with your company, of course...
Finally i received my visa today after 2 months of waiting, but to my surprise it is a busines visa valid for 6 months where it says also the profession. Doha here i come
Silvermoon, it doesn't take very long to get visas done, meaning, not any of the initial ones, entry, work or business.
I got my job offer on the 15th July and had my visa and ticket two and a half weeks later. I arrived on 17 August and I already have my residency/work permit.
Usually companies already have the quota they can apply for, all it then requires is that they apply, get it approved and collect it.
I am a bit confused.. may we are talking about different kinds of visa. I was waiting for the business visa which I can use to entry the country.. it took about 2 weeks.. once I am in qatar, my company will apply for my Permanent Residency (or working permit).. I don't know yet how long it will take, but i will definitely let you know...:):):)
Xena, yes, you can get into the country with the visitor's visa only and then you can wait for your working visa in the country. But usually the Company applies for the working visa/permit while you are out of the country (to make sure that you DO get a permit to work in Qatar), then the Company sends you a ticket. Once you are in the country they apply for your Permanent Residence, that's where you do your medical test and fingerprints. For example, for me as a canadian, I don't need a visa to entry the country (I can obtain a visitor visa upon my arrival in the airport), but I still do need a working permit to work in qatar. (And by the way I just GOT it!!) When I come to qatar next week, the company will apply for my residency..
Well, can someone please tell me whats the position of journalists there. Socially and professionally. i have heard they are not looked with respect. Aslo is the job worht financially.
Please could you be more specific about whether you are talking about a entry visa, to get into the country, or a residency/work permit which you get after all your medical tests and finger printing.
An entry visa, which could be either a visit visa, work visa or business visa, is normally issued within a few days of your company applying for it..... 10days the most. I have known them to take 2days.
But if you are talking about your residency/work permit, which you will only get once in the country, that will take anything up to two months.
Maybe due to the Asian Games, the entry visas are being slowed up, but generally, they don't take to long....
Silvermoon....i can only speak of personal experience.....my husband and i were sent a ticket but had no Visa as of yet....we changed the date on it once the HR decided to let us come in to qatar on a visitors visa and they have dealt with it in country but believe me nothing will be done fast i think we were quite fortunant as my husband works for the gov. Therefore within 4-5 weeks he had his residency Best to check with your Employer
guys! the company sent me a ticket already, wich is in 1 week!!!.. but I still don't have a visa!! what should I do? should I come to qatar anyway and wait there? or ahould I stay in canada and wait here?? wow.. what a situation!!
I am waiting outside Qatar in the UK. Apparently Visas can take up to 8 weeks during normal periods and they applied for mine 2 weeks before the end of ramadam (about six weeks ago?) I am hoping it comes through within the next two weeks. However, I cannot then come out because all hotels are booked up until after the Asian Games. Hence unlikely to relocate until end of December/New Year.
Mike, did you get your visa? where are you waiting? in qatar or out of country? I also wait for mine one.. it has been for 2-3 weeks already.. just wondering how long it might take...

Mike, welcome to Qatar. Waiting for visa is a part of the routine here. I've waited for mine for 2 months.
I also would like to know the answer.. and also, I have heard that the issued visa is valid only for 2 weeks, after that it's expired.. is that true?
