The word is...

Xena
By Xena

EXACTLY

Can anyone tell me why the word 'exactly' has such random spellings such as:

Eggactly
Egjacly
Ekkzackly

and numerous other spellings I have found on the forums of late.

I have noticed that (and this is not a racial slur) Indians are the prime users of this word and these awful spellings.

Now I know english is not most of the posters on the forum's first language, however I find this exact same phenomenom with the journalists where I work and most of them have English degrees.

So is it because you just cannot be bothered to spell the word correctly, or you are just saying it as you spell it and do you not realise its incorrect?

Don't start me on the the awful spelling and grammar of local press.... yes and that includes the Peninsula...

In fact there was an appeal for info from two Brit expats relocating to Qatar. I just couldn't answer. The spelling was so awful.... just read like illiterate morons and sure they will be on a big salary.

Xena, it's just for FUN sometimes..It doesn't meant that we don't know the spelling..Actually it would be really hard for you to understand INDIAN TERMINOLOGY..:))

marga_knowing

so that's it! Somebody claimed that Indians spell a word as it is pronounced. Still, it could have been better if they spell it correctly. =)

Xena it does...

Type out eggjactly in word ...it will show red underline...right click it ...it shows correct spelling ...simble... that was supposed to mean ...simple ;)

Spell check only works if it understands what the word MIGHT be....

It doesn't get spellings like "eggjactly"

Xena its similar to the interchanging of the "P" with "B" joke...on QL

Like Bebsi, Batrol, Beoble, etc instead of Pepsi, Patrol & People....

But if the guys at your press is doing this wrong spelling then they not only dont know to spell but are also obviously stupid cause its their job to spell check ...which can easily be done in Microsoft Word.... Word also corrects on the run...while typing so it makes no sense to me that they dont use these tools...

Or maybe they are copy-pasting from QL....lol

I personally know a stupid guy who spell checks in AutoCAD...lol AutoCAD of all the softwares....lol

Xena its emphasizing a particular regional accent ...

The accent is from some movie...some comedy dialogue... for which the response is pronounced by the hero/comedian as Eggjactly... and not exactly.

There is a spell check ...so most of the mispronunciation is mostly implied.... unless the guy doesnt know what a spell check is...

another similar recent dialouge is "aall izz well" instead of "all is well" ...its said by Amir Khan in Hindi Movie - "3Idiots".

people do it for conveying emphasis to a certain aspect..thats my best guess. If they dont know the spelling then the reason is pretty obvious.
