Will QL Ladies now boycott L’Oréal ?
L’Oréal, the French cosmetics giant, whose advertising campaigns proclaim “because you’re worth it”, was found guilty of racial discrimination for considering black, Arab and Asian women unworthy of selling its shampoo.
France’s highest court was told that the group had sought an all-white team of sales staff to promote Fructis Style, a haircare product made by Garnier, L’Oréal’s beauty division.
The word went out that Garnier’s hostesses should be BBR — “bleu, blanc, rouge” — the colours of the French flag. The expression is widely recognised in the French recruitment world as a code for white French people born to white French parents, a court was told, in effect excluding the four million or so members of ethnic minorities in France.
La Cour de Cassation, the equivalent of the US Supreme Court, said that the policy was illegal under French employment law, upholding a ruling given by the Paris Appeal Court in 2007.
Districom employees said that they were given oral instructions to favour white sales staff. But Thérèse Coulange, the deputy managing director of Districom, who sent the fax, said that she had merely wanted hostesses able to “express themselves correctly in French”. She said that the fax had been a personal initiative and not the implementation of company policy.

What bullshit this is.
I have a product, I want to sell it, I decide who gets to sell it. Marketing strategy, sales strategy... all business-related and, in essence, has nothing to do with racism. If I sell certain products I may, if I take my business seriously, want to make a profile of the 'correct' individual to sell my items. Nothing wrong with that. It starts with Male/Female followed by other criteria.
On CNN there was this commercial selling a skin-product especially designed 'for women of color'. You now think the owner/ceo/cfo would want a 'white chick' to sell it? NO... that would be stupid.
The big mistake L'oreal made is the way they have communicated their preferences, and should simply come forward and apologize for any misunderstandings.
I'm not sure that l'Oreal should be held responsible for 1 persons actions, if that brand doesn't hold the same views. After all.....
Dont buy their products",
thanks for the info Brit...
i'm not using their shampoo... coz i know it will not give any good result if i'll used it on my long black beautiful shiny "asian" hair... lol :)

Alexa,
good point..if it was for marketing reasons discussed by you and Oryx and twisted by journalists then nothing is wrong i believe..
but if the company is found guilty then it is a racist act.
consider that instructions were oral and the managaing director stated it is a personal initiative.
I agree but as the thread states "...found guilty for considering considering black, Arab and Asian women unworthy of selling its shampoo."
unworthy!!
Thought about it.....
Would be strange eh to go to a predominately Asian country and see white people advertising products....the company would be called - racists
and then you go to another country and they use models according to their perceived target market and they are called racists.....
so women to advertise shaving foam?
men to advertise tampons?
because other wise the companies are being sexist....
oh-oh, i prefer their hair coloring brand, loreal recital preference. oh well, got to remain brunette for now:-)
usapa na...
I have been to lots of African countries and I am trying to think of a product that ONLY uses black people for marketing purposes.....
I have never thought about it like that before....so I am thinking on..... mmmmmmmm interesting point
The Dude, lol!
I agree with brit in response to you!
So what you're saying is that one should not make any stands on ethical or moral grounds..
We are living in consumer societies.
If you'll start boycotting out of certain principles, you may as well go live in a rain-forest in a bamboo hut where you can run around naked all day.
Regardless, I think men and women should boycott so many products and trademarks..
I see running after trademarks as bad as mental disturbances.
I would exclude items offering real value for paid money and those ones which respect intelligence of consumers.
i use Neutrogena products and they are good
anyone against it? :)

no way.. just yesterday i purchased my day and night cream though!
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving!!!
i dont even INTERESTED to deal with any kind of RACISM, it just not my area of EXPERISE.
but since its all about HAIR, am not a fan in colouring my hair, i LOVE my BLACK hair just the way it is
That is horrible, and very very sad indeed. In today's world it really is sad to still encounter such racism. They've dug themselves a hole there.
There is even worse, have a look at: http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,973283,00.html
im an Elvive user now, however, i still use L’Oréal for hair colouring products, i may have to find a new brand..
Thank God your requesting the ladies to give up on L'Oreal and not the gents.
Now I can continue to use my favorite hair gel.
but they are not that popular in any ways.
Another racist company So what should we coloured people do dig a hole and disappear ?....i feel terrible coz i do use their shampoos and the chlorine shampoo for when my boy goes swimming....damn...thanks Brit.
Well done ! I am proud of you..
I am shocked, stunned and not a little perturbed.. Hrrrrrrmph ... Hrrrrrrrrrrrmph...
You would deal with a racist company just because of hair ???
At least you're honest :)
I WISH I CAN, but with the weather like in Qatar, loreal is the only product tht match with my asian skin textures for my face :(
Makes no difference to me!
Whatever you vividly imagine, Ardently desire, Sincerely believe and Enthusiastically act upon, Must inevitably come to pass.
i dont use those brand at all ... shampoo, cosmetic and everything else.
Don't use it anyhow.
