Will Pakistan accept Indian Flood Aid?

Fateh
By Fateh

While top leadership of pakistan are requesting global community to help but no 'great' support is visible as of now, my concern is -

1. Is it true that this flood is caused by US, India & Afganistan trio as being told to common man in pakistan?
2. Why Pakistan is not accepting Indian aid of $ 5 Million ?
3. Why there is less support from global community?

Sixteen days after the Tsunami in 2004, aid commitments totaled $1.4 billion. Sixteen days after Pakistan's floods began, promises added up to just $200 million.

Yet relief agencies say the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Pakistan is even greater than this year's earthquake in Haiti.

Among high-profile donors after that disaster, with a million-dollar gift to Haitian relief, was actress Angelina Jolie, who's also given to Pakistan but less than she gave to Haiti.

A U.N. appeal for $460 million is only halfway met. If so-called "donor fatigue" is one reason, Pakistan's image is probably another, according to the U.N.'s former deputy chief.

"Pakistan has bad PR, but it has bad PR for a very good reason," said Mark Malloch Brown, former deputy secretary-general. "This is an extremely weak, frail, in some ways even failing state."

Big-scale relief, in a way, was invented for Pakistan or the area that used to be part of it, called Bangladesh.

To help cyclone victims and refugees in 1971, the Beatles' George Harrison wrote a song. The benefit concert was the first of its kind.

No one's singing for Pakistan yet to ease this suffering.

The worst comment I read are-
(a) Will money sent will really be used for flood victims and not for politicians or terror organizations
(b) Instead of putting lots of money in neuclear bomb what if it had invested in making proper water infrastruture?

100% donation never landed in right hands around the globe, but it might possible that here in case of Pakistani flood victims, the proportionate can be slightly high.

PM visits Leh, unveils Rs1.25bn aid package

IANS/Leh

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh yesterday visited flood-ravaged Leh in Jammu and Kashmir and announced a Rs1.25bn relief package for the victims. He also promised to visit the people again before the onset of winter to assess the situation.

The prime minister, who arrived here on a day-long visit, said that all houses destroyed in the August 6 devastation will be reconstructed within the next two-and-a-half months.

“Hospitals, schools, electricity connections and roads will be rebuilt and all rehabilitation works will be completed within the next two-and-a-half months and before the onset of winter. Funds will not be a problem,” he said.

Singh had earlier announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs100,00 to the kin of each of those killed and Rs50,000 each to the seriously injured from the PM’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

Besides the Rs1.25bn, a grant of Rs5cr each will be provided to the Leh & Kargil Autonomous Hill Development Councils under the Special PMNRF package to meet immediate requirements, the prime minister said. He also announced an assistance of Rs200,000 for each fully damaged house in Ladakh and Rs100,000 for every partially damaged house.

Pakistan has accepted 5 million dollars aid from India but is the aid going to reach the victims? I have not come across such announcements by Pakistan government.

I also wonder why dams are not made in rivers to harness electricity, irrigation and avoid havoc by floods.

USA received aid during Hurricane Katrina as well, should they be ashamed too???

Just be thankful that Malaysia has been spared a major calamity.

I am sure Pakistan will accept the aid.

Only we, with our dirty minds, filled with nasty things, we created different type of politicians and later on we blamed them.

We create politician and touch their feet and god knows what else we do to appease them.

If india is giving aid to the flood victims, then pakistani govt, should accept the aid with a big heart, it is not the time to refuse a single bit of aid, half of the pakistan is underwater.....

This is the sort of attitude that politicians use to cause divisions and stay in power.

Personaly, I believe that accepting help from India would be a step in the right direction. This could be the start of further co-operation leading to positive things for both.

Britexpat take a hypothetical situation.. There is a natural calamity in Palestine, will you expect them to accept aid from Israel or will they expect Israel to extend the aid?

Indian money will be used to send more terrorists to India. Did you know the Pakistani troops launched an offensive on the border yesterday? One thought they will be more concerned with flood victims right now.

1. Is it true that this flood is caused by US, India & Afganistan trio as being told to common man in pakistan?

Crap.

2. Why Pakistan is not accepting Indian aid of $ 5 Million ?

They should. This is false pride, but perhaps the politicians are afraid of a backlash from the public.

3. Why there is less support from global community?

People don't trust the politicians. It has already been shown that after the earthquake, the government used aid money to purchase Mercedes limousines for ministers.

What you should worry abour more is yesterday's news that Pakistan has agreed a "Loan" from the World Bank to aid the floods. How much of that will go into the politicians' pockets and how much interest will the government have to pay?

People in Pakistan are hardly affected by this natural disaster (flood). Politics must set aside for now, helping one another should take place and that is priority. Any aids from neighboring countries should be recognized and not be rejected.

1."This flood is caused by US, India & Afganistan trio as being told to common man in pakistan?"....and people believe that?

2."Why Pakistan is not accepting Indian aid of $ 5 Million?"...they should accept it .

3."Why there is less support from global community?"....I think the support is not less but the destruction is in such a large scale that any amount is appearing less. Even the poor country like Nepal has sent help as per its capacity.

Media plays the devil yet again. If one wants a clear picture, the only reliable source are the people of Pakistan who have been hit by this disaster of biblical proportions. They need help and that's all they care. Indian Aid, if offered, should not be denied.

By Lafanga• 19 Aug 2010 13:17

America has altered the weather patterns in Pakistan and India has directed all the rivers in India and Afghanistan towards Pakistan to cause this flood. That's what they are saying.

Ok No great support????

World Bank is giving 900 MILLION DOLLARS.. You know how much that is?

As for Indian Aid, I can't understand why Indians want to give any aid when Pakistan is accusing them of causing this flood.....

It is understandable, how can a country that brainwashes the people with hostile propaganda against India accept aid from it ?

The world is hesitant to send not because it does not care, but only because the aid will end up in the hands of a few perverts who are running the show. Who can ensure it reaches the poor masses ?
