Why sell them so expensive if ... come in!!

I frequently buy magazines at local stores and come home all so happy. I read through them and get all excited about the new fashion and trend setters in the market. Today for the first time I grabbed REDBOOK. Sitting in my living room on the sofa, reading through page by page - then SKIP. HUH!! Where is page 70 go? Apparently they tore out the spicy pages from the magazine. Ok. Fine. Take it away, but why charge us QR34 for it?

I'm upset, so I'm venting.

How come you are surprised by that! Don’t you read local dailies or Qatari public forums? In a daily bases there are controversial articles & posts sparked by the “Takfeeris” about how indecent are imported books and magazines . Haven’t you read of the campaign started by a “Alsharq” newspaper demanding more censorship over books at Virgin Store. Demanding that art/fashion books be confiscated! Next think they’ll demand to Ban Medicine books as it shows the human anatomy!

I don’t understand how is this in-line with HH the EMIR 2030 vision which encourages Qataris to free think

Are we going back to the Old Practice of blacking out magazines & ripping out the pages? I thought those days were over. Not only that but I used to receive the e-catalogue from Carrefour for their weekly specials. The last one I received I could not open cos it was blocked by Qtel. What could be Haram in that shopping magazine/flyer? They hand the hardcopy out at the stores? Anyone care to explain?

Yeah, I always used to look for it when I went in there - that was when Jarir's was the only bookshop, pre Virgin days. :-)

That is funny - and sad. Redbook isn't exactly known for it's racy style.

Yep, once in Jarir's picked up a kiddies Winnie the Pooh board book, one of those with thick cardboard pages for babies really, and every picture of Piglet was blacked out.
