Why green tea is good for you?

soniya
By soniya

Not only is green tea helpful if you want to lose some inches, research has proved that having green tea regularly is good for one's health..

- It has antioxidants called poly-phenols and catechins, excellent in battling free radicals, which are toxins known to cause cellular damage, aging and diseases.

- Green tea is good for healthy skin and prevent wrinkles. The same free radicals, which cause cancer also attack skin cells and make you age faster in the form of wrinkles and skin spots.

- Polyphenols found in green tea inhibit the growth of bacteria causing bad breath and help protect teeth and gums. Regular intake avoids tooth decay.

- Other benefits include fighting rheumatoid arthritis, infection, lowering stress and blood pressure, protecting against heart disease, diabetes and brain damage, building bone density, minimising the risk of a heart attack, protect the kidneys and liver.

Green tea may help improve bone health, researchers in Hong Kong have reported.
The boffins found that the tea contains a group of chemicals that can stimulate bone formation and help slow its breakdown. The study has been published in ACS’ Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry , a bi-weekly publication.

In the study, Ping Chung Leung and colleagues noted that many scientific studies have linked tea to beneficial effects in preventing cancer, heart disease, and other conditions.

To reach the conclusion, scientists exposed a group of cultured bone-forming cells (osteoblasts) to three major green tea components - epigallocatechin (EGC), gallocatechin (GC), and gallocatechin gallate (GCG) - for several days.

They found that one in particular, EGC, boosted the activity of a key enzyme that promotes bone growth by up to 79 percent. EGC also significantly boosted levels of bone mineralization in the cells, which strengthens bones.

The scientists also showed that high concentrations of ECG blocked the activity of a type of cell (osteoclast) that breaks down or weakens bones. The green tea components did not cause any toxic effects to the bone cells, they noted.

To reach the conclusion, researchers from Okayama University tracked the health of more than 12,000 elderly people living in Japan. The men and women were aged between 65 and 84. In the study, the volunteers were asked to fill out questionnaires on lifestyle factors including details of diet, smoking and alcohol intake, reports The Daily Express.

During the following seven years more than 1,200 of the volunteers died. However, when all questionnaires were analysed, scientists found that the more green tea the participants had drunk, the less likely they were to have died. This, especially, was true of cardiovascular disease.

Those drinking between 420ml and 560ml a day were up to 75 per cent less likely to have died of heart or circulatorydisease than those who drank less than one cup each day. The study has been published in the Annals of Epidemiology.

There are many benefits of having green tea like :
Green tea cuts prostrate cancer risk
Green tea may help treat leukemia
Green tea helps keep teeth healthy
Green tea cuts heart disease risk
Green tea reduces lung cancer risk
Green tea helps treat brain disorders
Green tea helps fight oral cancer

there *may* be something in this, although I can't get past the abstract and see the full study of the bone thickness study.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20306019

As usual though the journalist misses out some key points such as the research was done on RATS and has not been repeated on humans. Nor can I find a study that repeats the findings of this study.

It's a far cry from "scientists say green tea is good for you"

Blame poor journalism, not science.

Well well I did not know about this study. But one has to realize that the effect of any supplement or enchancement element is dependent on the emotional quoteint. When that is in disarray no matter what one consumes there would be no diffence at all

Just a small tip. Just add a dash of pure honey to green tea and it will be more acceptable to the taste buds. Honey in hot water with lime too reduces weight. A combination of green tea with honey really shows good results in a couple of weeks

All the information about green tea is just recent. I come from tea country and I personally can vouch for the benefits of consuming green tea. In fact I have been drinking this past 12 years everyday at least a glass full and it certainly works.

Among other things which is very peceptable is the Non-weight gain.

Soniya, if you want real flavor and aroma of tea then you shouldn't boil the tea at all.

Get some decent Darjeeling Tea.

Pour boiling hot water on the Leaves.

Cover the pot with a tumbler.

Wait 4 minutes.

Remove tumbler.

Pour into a cup through a strainer.

Add sugar to taste.

Whitner if you wish.

And sip it...slowly.

Thats the way to drink tea.

When you boil tea leaves and add milk before preparing the tea then the milk fat creates a coating around the tea leaves and the aroma doesn't come out. More boiling helps extract the nicotine. So it becomes sort of a mlk shake not chai.
