i was looking at the prices of Camaro in GM USA website,
the prices are very low comparing to qatar dealer,
don't GM have a unified pricing policy like Mercedes?
can i force the dealer to give me the website price?
may be its the management who is greedy because to my knowledge there is no tax in qatar the only extra amount thay have to pay is the shipping charges that too when it is a bulk order ther is lot of discounts specially when it is a GM dealer who is a regular customer and regarding manufacturing the parts based on the region there are roads in some part of india it is lot worst than in here and for all the products there is tax specially foreign but still i dont feel it as expensive as in here
Most companies have a higher pricing for Middle East. The medicine which costs me 2.5 INR in India ( About 0.2 QAR) costs me 18 QAR here. That is just one example, across the board companies over-charge those in gulf.
Most products have different prices in the GCC than in Europe or USA. GM even has variation between Qatar and Saudi Arabia. In some cases even the specs are different.
I doubt whether you can force the dealer to give you a US price..
layoumal, maybe you can buy the car online and have them ship it over to you. I know people that did that and weren't happy about it. The cars are manufactured by region. What is made for the US, will not handle the conditions in the GCC.
layoumal: You forget that Cars get transported via Ship containers, if you include the transportation + insurance etc etc, costs do add up. Plus, region pricing also pays a role, GM makes cheap cars in India for sale in India, don't seem many of those cars here in this region.
So, in each market, people's taste, choice and preferences change. GM has now started to market small cars in the US, previously SUVs were driving growth for it in the US.
And, btw who told there are no custom duties, you have 5% custom duties on cars imported commercially.
I used to buy many GM parts from the UK and bring them to Doha in my suitcase. GM is just ridiciously priced here. And don't get me started on crappy AC Delco batteries made in Saudi Arabia and costing more than in the UK!!
The prices are set per region, the additional cost of say transporting the vehicle to Qatar, import taxes, customs duties, ect... The price on the web site is known as MSRP or Manufactures Suggested Retail Price. What we in the US do is use this as a gauge to start bargaining for the best possible price.
Just a note on unified pricing, I know you can get into a Mercedes cheaper in Germany than you can anywhere else in the world.

I imported a car from the USA two years ago. Port to home it cost me US$3500 including all fees and taxes in Qatar.
online order only!
jackmohan I didn't know, that's why I asked you, LOL ;)
Lafanga I thought you would have an answer to your question..
For QR5 one cant get KFC...:(
5 QR per Metric Tonne
Of a Car? That weighs 2,200 Kgs?
Honestly I have no Idea!
jackmohan how much do you think sea shipment costs from USA to Qatar?
Give it a wild guess in terms of percentages.
It would have been the same...if shipping (half way across the globe) was free!
Europe and North America are bigger and more competitive markets than GCC.As long as you are happy with miles and fahrenheit , you may go ahead :)

Bink187 your explanation makes sense, but considering that there are no taxes and no mentioned customs here in Qatar, i think Qatar Dealer is a thief
