Why do you like Qatar?

"Why do you like Qatar?" I am a new traveller in Qatar and that's the common question I received from the people I've met in the City of Doha.

With all the good & not so good things about Qatar, I love this country as it became a home for my mother who's still working here for almost 20 years now. My Mom who wasn't able to reach college had an opportunity to work here in a chain of restaurants from a regular service crew to manager. She was able to support our family and my studies. I am now an engineer and I owe it to my Mom and to this country. Qatar has helped not only workers, families, but the economy of my country as well - the Philippines.

Share your thoughts by answering the same question.

Cheers!!!

I like the sensitivity to environmental issues and the embracing of a green philosophy.

It might be abit so early for me to answer to this question. but so far, what I like about qatar is:

1- It not as bad as I thought (?)

2- Qatar is very safe

3- Calm environment

4- Nice people ( People around are willing to help if you need any assistant and the local qatari is seem to be respectful n nice)

I guess thats all I can say about now :)

One thing I dont like here is the traffic abit dangerous on how they drive so fast. But after all, Qatar is a nice place. Stay peace ^^

Nothing wrong in saying the truth, there is nothing to be ashamed of and it is a fact that the money the expatriates are sending to their respective countries is greatly helping the economy be it India,Philippines,Egypt,Sudan or any other country for that matter, being a major source of foreign exchange for these countries, while we make a living for ourselves we are involuntarily helping our own nations and it will be hypocrisy if you don't give credit to our host nation the State of Qatar.

This is probably why most people like Qatar ...

I love it! Why? For many many reasons really that will take far too long to go into. Suffice to say I've never been as happy and content anywhere else in my life as much as I am here, Innal Hamdulillah. Qatar is certainly not perfect but then neither am I, so alls good!

been here for over 5 years mainly because haven’t had the opportunity to find elsewhere.

Some laws are to be amended or cancelled altogether and 1st would be the NOC & 2nd would be the high cost of living, specially the residence.

Rest, it’s an ok country, like everyone has said earlier, no crime and better health care.

There are countries with even lower living costs,it is all relative ,we have to consider the average salary the people in similar positions get elsewhere ,you have to make sure that you get compensated for the extra bucks you spend here for the same service or goods that otherwise would have cost you (claimed to be less)in the KSA and the UAE, hordes of people are coming to Qatar from those countries simply doesn't make sense, sacrificing the low cost living for just to be in Qatar?

I am here since 4 months, found it's not an affordable living compare to KSA and UAE.

Inspite of the culture shock some of us ,the expatriate community has felt in Qatar, our continuing presence here is self explanatory and implies that there is something for every one that keep them in Qatar be it the salary and allowances, security, peace, fairly decent and affordable living and a whole lot of things ,I have been here for more than seven years now and my family was also here most of the time and I have never felt any problems and I'm thankful to the God Allmighty, the country that is Qatar,it's Government headed by the respected His Excellency The Ameer and it's people for the peaceful life we have had and wish and pray for the best for this country and it's inhabitants, thank you Qatar!

I like Qatar because it has a unique quality to it. Just the idea of being part of it's developmental process while still able to live in a similar bi-cultural and diverse atmosphere that I'm used to back home in California is pretty sweet.

I may be a newbie speaking from my little 2-3 months experience where I'm still trying to settle in, but I can honestly say that I can see myself living here for a long time. I'm a firm believer that Qatar has a lot to offer alongside it's little to no crime, affordable healthcare and family-oriented atmosphere.

Thanks ARF0021289 for posting this interesting forum. =)

I am the vine and Qatar is the branches. But no matter what I do I'm still not a part of the tree in this foreign place. I may bear flowers and fruits but I shed a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this scorching desert place of love and hate. I may have survived all the trials to date but for sure I have to be back to my home sweet home that is.

I am the bread and Qatar is the butter of my life...lol,on a serious note,i find Qatar very different from where i came from, the culture, the people which i really appreciates, the beauty of arab women, the sand dunes, the heat, and morning prayers from the mosque sounds music to my ears.I already had good memories...for 9yrs.that i have been here, there is nothing I could not ask for more? :-)

I like Qatar for it's flora and fauna. It's greenery and abundance of wildlife which attracts people to come to this country. The only other country where there's so much to see is Somalia.
