Groom robbed banks to pay for wedding

A desperate bridegroom staged four bank robberies after his wife-to-be's plans for a huge white wedding got out of hand.

The groom netted more than £300,000 in the heists in Austria before he was caught.

But it still wasn't enough for his fiancee who demanded 500 guests, a Chanel gown, a new car for the drive to the service and a Caribbean honeymoon.

Ahmed Boyer, 36, was caught when an off duty policeman grabbed him as he fled a bank in Vienna.

"The wedding was costing a lot of money and I realised I would never be able to pay for it," he told the court.

"The money from the first robbery went in a day so I just kept going."

He faces jail.

Perhaps Brit, men should think with their heads (other heads) and not their hands?

Seriously, none of this was reason enough to rob the banks... He should have simply stated that her needs were unrealistic, and if she woulden't have it i don't think he needs her in his life.

Shouldn't the question be:

Why are men (like this) so stupid?

They can be found in mining towns of Australia, in the outreaches of Canada and ofcourse Austria. I am sure that if you try, you can unearth a couple in Qatar.

Ridiculous! If left to me, we'd just sign the register and take 10-15K and go for a nice free and easy holiday bunking in the BBHs.. in NZ. (Ok, so I have a bee in my bonnet about NZ since 2002).

Anyway, after all, a marriage is basically between the 2 parties. Of course, we'd want our precious relatives and friends to celebrate together with us but no need to invite the whole world unless we can really afford it - according to the reality of our finances... other people's perceptions are irrelevant.

/Actually, might just pitch a tent on Wolfie's farm and celebrate there, if I'm still here and IF I get married, that is...
