Having a front end loader deliberately run over you and then back over you is murder not suicide, just as much as if she was shot!

compassion isn't a requirement for all good nurses btw....empathy is and I don't empathise one bit with this girl...

PM, yes I am a nurse, thats why I have a problem with people taking their own lives for this reason.....

The Israelis kill anyone that get in their way be it and American or a Brit.  Poor Rachel they ran over her twice and no one ever went to jail.  In Israel you probably get a bonus.  I am sure she never believed they would run her over most civilized societies would not do such a thing.  Their was also a British journalist with a white flag (surrender flag) up and  he was shot in the head.  No one is safe when Israel whats something.  I think Israel will end up being the country that destroyes the world.

Although I would never have done what she did...I just think calling her stupid is like rubbing salt on the wound.

Also, in her defense, do you think she KNEW the driver wouldn't stop? Look i've seen this type of protest before (recall the imges of the man in front of the tank in tiannemen square....greepeace activists putting their ships in the way of tankards and hunting vessels....people chaining themselves to trees to stop them being cut...etc..)...but who in their right mind would have know that the bulldozer wouldn't stop????

Stay safe all.

but i also think it's about a time TO STOP killing themselves for WHATEVER sake! whoevery they are and wherever they are...

we live in 21 centure and we are a HUMAN society which is enough developed to find alternative ways for solving our problems, rather than killing ourselves or other people!

-Altruistic suicides This occurs in societies that see individual needs as less important than the societies as a whole. As individual interest was not important, Durkheim stated that in an altruistic society there would be little reason for people to commit suicide. He stated one exception; if the individual is expected to kill themselves on behalf of the society. An example of this rare type of suicide would be suicide bombers who are willing to take their lives for their religions.

baedaebok, I'm confused by your reply. I have a challenge/work hard and do something productive with my life at the same time that takes up enough of my life to enable me to appear to live like I'm living at the Sheraton (I wish!).....

Like you Supernurse, I choose a profession to help people.

I like teaching b/c it is a chance to help people improve their lives.  This is the case though most of my students have an easy life (Qataris).  But I think they have a boring life also.  Nothing to do except meeting friends, eating in expensive restaurants, travelling to nice countries (and staying in nice hotels), ordering your housemaids to do everything for you (including doing my Ss homework), and get a job with few real duties.

There's nothing wrong with this but, IMHO, life like this has no meaning or purpose.  It's just day after day of the same old thing...the same lovely thing but still the same thing.  It's like living your whole life being a guest at the Sheraton hotel.

I know a crowd of people will tell me that they don't care about purpose and meaning in life.  They just want to enjoy life...live & retire in Bali.  That's good.  But I really think they are denying something within them.  They need something more than that.  They need challenge, hard work, and doing something productive with their lives.

Nicely said!

Her actions are suicidal which is a very contraversial topic in many relgions.

If she hadn't have died

a) she would have lived to fight another day and maybe don't more good in the long run than the short term spotlight.

b) her family and friends wouldn't be devasted.

Many people are politicised just because of geography...... thank goodness we have never been in the situation of someone lets say in Rwanda.

We indeed live in ignorant bliss and will never have to face the dreadful dilemmas others have.

By anonymous• 8 Apr 2008 12:38

I wouldn't say it was a luxury to not give a crap about politics, I just don't...I have chosen to look after people at the end of their lives for a profession so politics is nothing in the scheme of things in my mind. I think the world is aware of what is happening in Palestine and doesn't need some gung ho westerner highlighting the issue!

But I think you should give her the benefit of the doubt, she clearly did have something to gain by bringing the spotlight to an issue that the world turns a blind eye towards.

Deaths due to natural disaters are bad enough, but for PEOPLE to actually be causing misery to others is just so sad.

Some have the luxury to "not give a crap about politics" while others cannot in good concience just sit by and watch or bury their heads in the sand.

Stay safe all.

I suggest you to read "Defy the stars:the life & death of Tom Hurndall". He was a peace activist, & a friend of rachel corrie. The memoir is written by he’s mother. Very touching & heart breaking.

mmm we will agree to disagree. I don't give a flying feck about the political reason its just people throwing away their lives when there are people suffering needlessly and the selfishness of it all.....

Calling her stupid is a little harsh Supernurse....show some tact and respect for someone who had the courage and conviction to do something most of us wouldn't.

Sorry Ragnarock but most people arent fecking stupid enough to put their lives at risk like that. Its not couragious at all, its foolish and selfish. One has to think wtf was she going to gain from it?.......Nowt,plain nowt....

But yes, I too grieve for her family the most....especially if they didn't understand or share her convictions.

Well in my opinion she is stupid...in my profession I see alot of lives taken away by horrific illness and poor families destroyed by something that no one has any power over, to see idiots like this killing themselves over bloody politics or wotever it is is pure stupidity in my eyes.....I don't feel any sorry for her wotsoever, if you lie in front of a bulldozer then expect to get squashed...its her poor family that bear the brunt of her stupidity not her..
