White Racism in Cricket

This jerk Chris Broad bans a black player Ben for 2 matches while just a slap on wrist for the 2 aussies.

http://www.cricinfo.com/ausvwi09/content/current/story/440422.html
But the International Cricket Council (ICC) match referee Chris Broad, the former England opening batsman, needs to explain why he chose to hand Benn a more stringent penalty under the code of conduct, suspending him for the next two one-day internationals, than Australians Brad Haddin and Mitchell Johnson, who were fined for their on-field altercation during the third Test in Perth but can continue playing.

He seems to have a history of doing the same thing.

"Broad has previously suspended Indian batsman Gautam Gambhir for a Test for elbowing Australian bowler Shane Watson who was fined 10% of his match fee for "inappropriate verbal engagement with an opposing player" in the incident."

And see the difference between his statements and penalities when another coloured player made similar offence.

Shane watson is fined 15% of his match fee and Broad says,
"Shane is a very energetic and enthusiastic bowler but on this occasion he has gone too far by running down the wicket screaming, thereby not showing due respect for the opponent. While handing down the punishment, I took into account that Shane admitted his mistake by pleading guilty."

Zaheer Khan is fined 80% of his fee and broad says,
"Clearly, this sort of behaviour is not acceptable at any level of cricket - it showed a lack of respect for the player who had been dismissed. Respect for the opposition was something that we talked about in the pre-series meeting I had with both captains and so it was disappointing that Zaheer behaved in this way.
Broad considered Zaheer's good disciplinary record in delivering the fine. "He also pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and was very apologetic while also promising not to repeat the offence," Broad said.

Chris Broad has been under the hotspot for contraversial decisions / bans in the previous instances and the former Indian skipper wrote in his column about the "Chris's racism" against the sub-continent players... When it comes to English, Aussies and Kiwis players he just give a pat on the players back whereas if he is a sub-continent or WI player, he will enjoy kicking his balls up in the air...

What a load of old rubbish. Why is it that every time a 'player of colour' is sanctioned, they have to play the race card? Just grow up and take the punishment like a man and stop whinging.

If I posted qatari racism at work there would be up roar and probably a facebook page. Correct title should be is broad a racist? What has his skin colour got to do with it? Racists come in all colours.

This title is based on the prejudice that all the racist injustices in the world are perptrated by whites.

Brown rasicm in cricket don't have the same ring to it does it....

'white racism in cricket' does not imply all whites are racist...

If I were to say 'American men in talks', doesn't mean that all Americans are in the talk...

Don't be so over sensitive... watch the video I've posted and see for yourself who's at fault...

you can see Johnson getting between Benn and Haddin and then shoving at him... you can see Haddin pointing the bat at him... not to say Ponting's unceremonious shove at the bowler... and what's the verdict???

I am not saying that Benn is an angel who could do no fault but everyone is at fault here and everyone deserves to get punished to equal measure

The Topic headline is white racism in cricket, implying all whites are racist. It did not say Chris Broad's racism against cricketers from the Indian Subcontinent.

no one has generalized... we are talking about Chris Broad, Ponting and a few others...

I must protest at the vicious generalisation you are making at white people. You are saying all white people are the same and that we are all racists. That is a racist stereotype in itself. I understand why the Qataris get so upset at expats like you when you insult them

Ponting is the biggest crook in world cricket today

see the video

I didn't watch the match but I was following it...

what's with Ricky Ponting pushing the bowler off the pitch?... doesn't he have a tongue? Can't he speak English?

Its not the batsman but the umpires responsibility...

As for the confrontation, I don't see why Benn had to come off worse in that confrontation... Haddin raising the bat at him was totally unacceptable... Gambhir has a history of tantrums and he got run out that way, didn't see him creating a scene the week earlier and he's a specialist batsman...

One of the reasons that the Aussies and Kiwis get away with it is that they are groomed from very early on to get up people's nerves without getting in to trouble... the umpires need to appreciate the subtle cultural differences and be more balanced in the way they hand out their punishments...

Chris Broad has been at the center of similar controversies too many times for it to be a coincidence. Joel garner said, out of the 3 involved, he tapped 2 on the wrist and killed the 3rd guy. What was his reasoning, I don't know.

Must say that Chris has been involved with a lot of controversial bans on Players from the Sub-continent and the West Indies compared to the Aussies and Kiwis?

Which rule book ? KKK, certainly not crickets rule book. Why the difference in punishment of players for the same offence?
