First one I think as the middle guy's arm is on the girl's shoulder and in the second one it's the girl's arm around a guy's shoulder. I think the guy's arm will weigh more and the girls traditionally can bear less weight.

Further in first pic, the guy on the left is almost trying to crush the girl's hand but in the second one, the hands are held loosely together.
