Whats with all the dug up roads in Doha?

Why are they always digging up roads in Doha. I keep kidding around with visitors/clients i take around that they are searching for more GAS hence the digging but seriously infrastructure projects take ages to complete out here.

Apparently there is one bridge (near Massaeid on the way to sealine) that has been stalled for over 10 years now (not sure of this though - i've seen the bridge. thats it).

The first time i has visited Doha there was an underpass (near landmark) which was underconstruction. A year later there apparently was no progress and it has only been lately that the road has opened for traffic.

Is a problem of funds (can't be) or project mis management or plain laziness.

It is a nightmare goin to Citycenter now (specially on the weekends). The outcome of this is cars parked anywhere on the road leading/around City Center.I hope someone is building a parking lot in westbay once all these buildings are up and occupied

Seriously the government needs to consider drastic improvement in support infrastructure in addition to all the tall buildings being constructed and most importantly the contractors should be made accountable for delayed projects.

The only down times should be during 'rush hour'. But that's part of the growing pains in a conservative religious community. Rapid growth and conservative faith is a recipe for disaster.

i just don't get it. They dug up the road behind my office a month back and they've started again. I guess one of those idiots might have left his tools buried :-)

Seriously, when it comes to main arterial roads (of which the road infront of city center becomes one), the authorities should ensure that the work is completed by having day-night shifts. I am sure the workers would prefer to work at night rather than swelter in this crazy humid heat. Ofcourse the afternoon timings between 12 – 4 should be the only break they get.

I'm guessing part of it is resources. There are so little of them in this part of the world and the region is growing at such a rapid pace and the demand is even higher for the limited supply.

Also lack of proper planning. Since everything is run by the government, the priority is probably whoever pays top $$$.
