Woman jailed for possessing drugs

A local woman, who was caught at Doha Airport possessing small sachets containing hashish in her jacket for consumption purposes, was sentenced by a Doha court of first instance to a month’s imprisonment and a QR10,000-fine.
An upper court suspended the jail penalty and upheld the fine.
The 51- year-old woman landed in Doha from Iran, the judges heard.
A forensic result found her to be a drug addict.
The minimum jail penalty for possession of drugs is six months imprisonment but the court said it considered the circumstances of the woman.

51 year old local woman with hashish and the upper court upheld the sentence considering the circumstances. What an interesting conviction!

Frenchieman: I find it hard to agree that GT (which is a govt. puppet) would ever use a word that'l put people under impression that a Qatari is accused of crimes unless its really done.

Local does not always mean Qatari in the GT court reports. Sometimes they use the word interchangeably with Arab women who do not have citizenship but have lived her virtually all of their lives.
