What satellite TV to choose?

I know this topic keeps on coming back like a toothache, but still.... I was looking at the Showtime website, and couldn't make neither head nor tail of it. Platinum and Movie packages look absolutely the same.  The Orbit selection looks extremely limited, but they have the History channel. I have looked at StarTV, but it seems that they are geared towards subcontinent customers. We are not into sports, more like documentaries, reality shows (Apprentice etc.). What are the options? Who has experience with Showtime, Orbit and StarTV?

I would be very much interested in getting TV globo. My wife is coming over and it is imperative to have it at home. Can you help and tell me how you got it and how much it costs?

What about your other decoder you mention? If it has slots for CAM's, all you have to do is contact the local showtime dealer's and get you a card. I've been with showtime for almost 7yrs now. Plus I pay for the fox/art/star channels on top of that. No complaints here really.

I can't change decoder, TV Globo is locked by NagraVision and in this system the card is tied to a decoder.

i had orbit....ie american plus and supermovies...gave it up bcos small range of indian entertainment(cant live without my indian soaps)...so i have taken pehla....it wont suit you.

but my decoder has the option of 2 more cards...so i am tempted to take up showtime....will take it up soon.and they have their flexi package on the net. i need bbc food, tvland and pref comedy channel.i need my usual dose of CSI and Law n order..currently fullfilled by one tv and mbc4.

if u are using smart cards..why dont u check for a decoder that has the option of taking more than 2 cards?

happy heart

drive safe cos someone is waiting for u at home

I'll have to have two decoders anyhow, because I have one for brazilian TV Globo (my wife can't live without her soap operas)...

I have Orbit and find it ok. America Plus has the regular Smallville, CSI, Invasion etc etc. BBC Prime has Eastenders and plenty of DIY shows. Comedy channel has lots of US imports. You also get Sky News, CNNI, Orbit News channel (Mix of NBC,ABC,CBS News and current affairs) A few movie channels, Disney, cartoons for the kids. It sort of fills a gap for not a lot of money. Now I also want Showtime, but unless you have two decoders you can't have them all on one channel.
