If showing skin can be a reason for rape for some I guess they should never volunteer themselves in famine stricken or flood affected areas...guess instead of providing relief they would end up raping women around as we never know how much covered those hapless women would be.

I wonder who are criticizing Qatar Laws and regulations and action against crime and are foreigners! if you feel insecure leave its that simple. Ive been here all my life and Qatar thanks God is one of the safest places in the world.

in fact if they don't announce it, it doesn't mean that they don't legally solve it but they do it discreetly for the best of the victim.

Do not put yourself in a situation that guarantees more grief and pain than you already endured.

If you have been raped, leave Qatar and the GCC immediately on the next available flight for a country that has laws and medical systems that are able and/or willing to recognize rape for what it is. An assault - it has nothing to do with sex.

A 9 year old child was removed from the GCC last year for this exact reason. Her parents knew the child would not be recognized as a rape victim, so they immediately extracted her from the GCC to their home country and proper medical care.

Well, I do not think that a woman would lose her job or be put in jail for rape , "extra marital affairs"or drinking alcohol in many places on this planet.

Wonder why rape cases here are like ghost stories, almost everyone has one to share by referring to someone else as the source of information. Who has those 'all elusive' statistics?

..well in some places like India crimes like this do happen and get wide publicity but the problem is in places where it happens a lot more but victims are simply too scared to report it for fear of not being believed or being locked up for reporting

I think this is it applies all over the world, however free/liberal the nation is and women are.

But these days its not rape that is common, rather it is extra-marital affairs that have numbered over rapes. Why are people not looking into this.

The fact here that people here are more discrete about this kind of Issues, but that doesn't make the other countries more safe.

The simple fact is that rape is prevalent all over the world. Women often are afraid to come forward for many reasons including , not being believed or for shame.
