What to bring to Doha
By Rolling Stone •
A Canadian family would appreciate some guidance on what to bring to Doha.
Are there any specific items such as clothing, household items, electronics etc. that are either very expensive, in short supply or for which there is little in the way of selection in Doha?
Don't forget your sense of humour!
If you are using, we do not have here.
Do not bring alcohols.
If you are having special medications, get sufficient supply.
Well, to play on your handle a bit, you can't always get what you want.
Guess you can't have it all
I'm convinced!
Thanks for the help.
Baby clothing available too, no worries there.
Wow, I guess you get out more than I do. I must admit having a Virgin Megastore here is a revelation.
Rolling Stone, there's no beef jerky here or Crunch n Munch but there's always Amazon.
Thanks for the heads-up Bigdaddy. Look forward to checking the place out after over 12 years absence.
How about baby clothing?
TV is PAL but most sets here are multi-system.
Yes you do have a greater choice, and you have all sorts of choice of sheets from the bad, good and super-expensive.
I guess Bigdaddy gave you his perspective which is good because he knows your expectations.
Good luck moving.
Thanks e46m3.
I had the voltage difference covered. Do you know what the local TV transmission standard is (e.g. NTSC, PAL)?
I'd seen another article which indicated that bedding (sheets, duvets etc) was lacking in terms of selection. I was there 12 years ago and imagine there is much greater choice these days.
I was told a few things through way of buddy package on acceptance of job, however once I got here, they have it all.(generally)
So if you have a small shipment, bring nothing extra. But if you
have a endless container perhaps I would suggest:
Q-tips(ones here suck)
Seasoning Salt(stuff on D.Q. french fries)
Kids Toys(they have it all, 25% more here)
Bacon(unless you no an Army chap)
But honestly, they have it all. Don't waste your time at home searching. It's exciting once you land to go out and search the malls and be blowen away by all the stuff they have here.
Anything specfic, or other questions please ask.
Don't bring anything electrical because of the voltage issues unless they're electronic with an automatically regulated 120/240v variable power supply like computers etc.
Nothing really is in short supply. You'll save on electronic gizmos by buying them in Canada but double check the voltage although you could buy transformers.
Anything specific in mind?
