Another coup for Israel on the PR front... :O)

The Indian nanny who saved a Jewish toddler from militants who killed his parents during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks is to be given Israeli citizenship.

Sandra Samuel, 46, a Christian from Goa, was looking after the two-year-old son of Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife, Rivka, when gunmen attacked the Jewish centre they ran in the heart of Mumbai.

Mrs Samuel, a recently widowed mother of two, was on one of the lower floors of the Chabad House Jewish centre when she heard machine gun fire on the upper floors. But when the sound of gunfire subsided the following day, she heard two-year-old Moshe crying for her.

Instead of running away, she went upstairs to look for the toddler and found him covered in blood between the dead bodies of his parents. As the terrorist commandos stalked the roof, Mrs Samuel wrapped Moshe in a blanket and fled the building to safety.

She was immediately hailed for her heroism, but has struggled to secure an Israeli visa to help her remain in the country caring for Moshe, who now lives there with his maternal grandparents.

According to a statement by the Chabad organisation, the Israeli authorities have now granted Mrs Samuel Israeli citizenship to allow her to fulfil her hopes of looking after Moshe until he reaches adulthood.

Israel's interior minister said he had conferred citizenship on her in recognition of her bravery and as "a humanitarian step" to allow her to remain with the child.

...if the Palestineans can hire this lady to save the children of Gaza (and many Gaza's to come)

Now to answer you, gkramer:

"Why blaming Israel for something which goes on in the whole world."

Very simple: because "Israel" is the only "country" in the world that is founded on a stolen land/country that doesnt belong to them (well, as a matter of fact we have also the USA which was founded on the lands of the Red Indians....and Canada...and Australia....and NZ...and SA)

Few people are willing to praise any country which encourages/practises institutional racism. It's just another PR coup by Israel.

Well Israel has that blood thirst as they were so proud of the fact to annihilate 1300 armless weaponless Gaza residents in rain of missiles and phosphorous bombs.

I want the author of this Well done to imagine if he would be there in Gaza amid the rain of death and then reconsider his Well done!

Errmmm, this is NOT about Palestinians.( surprisingly, lol)This is about Israel naturalizing an Indian woman because she had done something good for a citizen.

And I said, what if that had happened in Qatar, everybody would have praised Qatar. But since it actually did happen in Israel, people are finding fault.

Clear now?

Unfortunately such news you don't read/find on the local newspapers. Generally speaking am against naturalising Palestinians, instead the UN should enforce all the dormant resolutions concerning them.

BUT she has bonded with the child whose life she saved and wants to help raise him so I say good on her and Israel for giving her the chance to do that.

What a bunch of sour grapes haters here.

State sponsored racism and discrimination aren't acceptable, Israel is another apartheid state, for more than 60 years, Israel has managed miraculously to convince the west to turn blind eye to every crime committed by Israel.

What a gutsy lady,Maashallah! Guess for Mrs Samuel this citizenship means more than just a pat on her back & some cash so good for her.

"Another PR coup for Israel"???

I should imagine they need all the help they can get when it comes to PR right now... The world, happily, isn't falling for nonsense like this.

Not when this is a country that won't even let 'black' (ethiopian and other countries) Sephardic Jews go to the same schools as their precious 'white' askeNAZI Jews.

Oh yes, great PR, let's have one little indian woman in here, and put it on all the net-forums/news outlets, but we're too racist to let our own White Jewish people go to school with other Jews, cos, erm, they're a bit too brown for our liking.

Well done - congrats - what a fabulous "democracy" Israel is...
