Villaggio mall reopening 'close'

shabina921
By shabina921

More than three months after a fatal fire shuttered Villaggio, the mall appears to be taking one step closer to reopening its doors.

Two representatives from separate retail groups have confirmed to Doha News that they have begun restocking inventories and reassigning employees to the mall, though they add that no official reopening date has been set.

Meanwhile, a criminal court hearing to determine responsibility for the May 28 fire that killed 19 people, including 13 children, will reportedly be held on Thursday.

But when reached for comment, the Public Prosecution did not confirm that the trial will take place this week.

I drove by Villagio today and there were cars and several people shopping. According to Doha News, Carrefour and a couple of shops are open. Shops between Gates 3 and 4 are closed. And a few restaurants at the food court are open.

The mall authorities should take all measures to ensure security of the visitors and prevent fire.

QCD!!!! Qatar Civil defense!!!

that is the best source and only one you can trust. Go call them (QCD) if you don't like facts posted from people who work at villagio that are given this info from QCD themselves!!

or better yet, peace out, and wait for the public posting from QCD as stated.

My sister worked as a pharmacist and was re-located from villagio to a temp pharmacy until villagio re-opens. She can speak facts being as she is waiting for that. she is back now at the villagio pharmacy doing prepares only, but only the QCD knows when it will be fully opened once The Villaggio mall will be given permit to reopen for business as soon as its ventilation, fire alarm systems and safety measures are fully compliant with the official requirements.

that as soon as the tests conducted by the mall’s management and the CDD are passed, a permit will be given for its reopening.

However, in case of failure of any tests conducted of the systems, the opening will be delayed until the issue is completely addressed, she said to just wait for the QCD to publicly announce it!!. That is not ok to post false storie.... They will reopen the shopping mall as soon as possible, but it is also keen to ensure that it complies 100% with safety standards.

the QCD stressed that no permit to reopen the complex will be granted before that target is met.

we always say: "please provide the link" to verify etc.

So, they "copy and paste" and provide the link...khalas? Is that all?

Ql is a discussion board wherein one posts and share views and opinions. If one asks for "thoughts" about the topic, you should be able to discuss, join in the discussion....not just post and leave.

I say, lets change qatarliving.com to "dohanews_extension_site.com"

I am way more inclined to follow Doha News than any of the Qatar daily newspapers... having worked for one for 5years, I can vouch for the fact that they print absolute c r a p on their their pages....

What are the credentials of Doha news?

By Inthetin• 4 Sep 2012 13:49
Inthetin

Actually nothing to do with any paper here. I read all sources here not just Doha news. I find their layout very easy and simple to read. The Gulf reports around the region where Doha news is basically Doha.

You stated their report is fake. I asked you to enlighten us. Why do you think it's a fake report?

You believe most ex pats read the Gulf! I'm sure a lot do read it but I think you'll find that Doha news has a far greater following now and is growing.

We are all afforded an opinion luckily and mine is to have the option of all sources!

By Inthetin• 4 Sep 2012 13:33

Benson, you are saying this is fake news? I would imagine that the authorities monitor all news and media outlets here in Doha such as twitter and public posting forums like on here.

Interesting that you say it's a fake report. Enlighten us then!

There isn't anything about this in either the Gulf or Peninsula.

So because it's not being reported by either of these media sources that means what's being reported by Doha news must mean it can't be true then!!
