Using Religion for Business & Politics

Wanted the opinion of fellow QL members on what they feel about this subject...

Some examples:

1) Constant recitation of holy Quran in malls (when no one seems to be listening). Whereas the Quran states the following:

So, when the Qur'ân is recited, listen to it, and be silent that you may receive mercy. [i.e. during the compulsory congregational prayers when the Imâm (of a mosque) is leading the prayer (except Sûrat Al-Fâtiha), and also when he is delivering the Friday-prayer Khutbah]. [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol.9, Pages 162-4] (Al-A'raf 7:204)

2) In pak Geo|TV every evening there is a programme in which many people are having iftar and the person conducting the programme announces - The Water has been supplied by X company; the Food is from Y- company etc. etc. I mean it looks cheap and vulgar

3) Trend of Iftar parties amongst politicians - which is nothing but a gimmick by these corrupt politicians.

Today religion is seen as another tool for the business to use rather than for the religion to use of them.

Just like how the Hajj has become big business for Saudi Arabia.

Dear QL members..

with regard to the intention of doing a certain thing, no one knows it other than the person himself and the Lord. so the Lord will reward in the same way to that person..

if he is doing for sake of ppl, than Lord will return it for him in this world only the outcomes of it.. but if something is done with the intention of pleasing the Lord, he will be rewarded both in this world and also the life after.

Doing good deeds and donating without revealing is very good deed. But sometimes the ppl who donate will not reveal it, but the ppl who are benefitted coz of it will reveal.. Moreover it will also lead other ppl in doing good deeds.. like competing in doing good deeds..

Personally i dont think competing in doing the good deeds is not a bad thing as at the end it will benefit the poor and needy ppl.. INTENTIONS OF A PERSON IS IMPORTANT AND NOT JUST THE ACTION.

"..2. Thats where the intention comes once again..."

When islam says that you need to do charity without publicity - whatever be yr intention if you are doing propaganda and advertising for charity then it is wrong.

"..3. my question remains - did you see whats in their hearts?.."

If you look at the topic of discussion it is using religion for politics and business; This does not refer to any one particular iftar party or individual - it is used in general sense and if some iftar parties are used for political ends is it acceptable to you - YES or NO

#2 : Islam says that if you give something you should do it in a manner that yr left hand does not know what you are giving from yr right hand....here it seems the companies are supplying iftar only to get publicity for their business, else what is the need to announce these things that the food has been provided by x-company etc.

#3: i was referring to indian politicians and the politics of iftar which takes place every year in india-:)

Regarding geotv ...i haven't seen much hence i can't say..but this is one instance which i noticed which i wanted to share...

1. neither should there be quran nor any music played.

2. It depends on their intention. why should you be ashamed of it.

3. It also depends on their intentions. Did you look into their hearts to know whether they are doing this for showing off or not?

BTW are all the programs in geotv islamic?

religion gives power to religious leaders who in turn can easily use this power into more power (politics) or money (financial).

knowledge is their biggest ennemy.

and true believers are those who ask questions, and than choose willingly their religious belifs.

Sad but true but even seen the founding of each religion, be it Christanity, Islam or one of the 100s of the new religions, (Think Scientology)they have been exploited for political and commerical game.

What better way to tell people if you don't give me money God will make sure you burn in hell? 300 years ago when people were much more naive that must have been frightening.
