University of Phoenix Online Degrees!

Say NO to University of Phoenix - Middle East
By Say NO to Unive...

I am a working expatriate and in most cases, it is very difficult to attend work, ground campus school activities and family affairs. However, due to ONLINE schooling, such will no longer be a problem. It took me more than 12 years before I finally decided to continue my degree with the help of online schools where I found University of Phoenix - Online.

Things went well. I was able to attend with my work, personal life, and school activities without any hustle at all. It was just a matter of time management and it was all worth it. In short, I was able to obtain my degree with flying colors!

Then suddenly, I was stunned! For once, I thought, that this was just a nightmare! Then I realized that this is for real! Everything were wasted! Every single money, time, effort and commitment I invested were worthless! My University of Phoenix – Online degree is NOT valid in most, if NOT all, countries here in the Middle East.

University of Phoenix – Online (Middle East) faculty members disclosed this information from me during my enrollment process and I only came to know when I was trying to get my degree authenticated here in the Middle East.

I hope this will serve as a warning to all current and aspiring ONLINE students specially with the University of Phoenix – Online that ANY degrees obtained ONLINE is considered INVALID.

Please disseminate this information accordingly as early as possible.

I used to teach in the Qatarisation progamme....what help me most was having worked as a temp secretary/receptionist in London and Sydney many years ago and my experience more recently in multinationals in UK.

How anyone can teach vocational skills who has never actually worked for a company commercially I do not know...but they do.

Brit; OTC Electrical, OTC Mechanical are my formal qualifications. I also have a 100 quid piece of paper that says I have a degree, which I don't, but I do have 30 years of excellent relevant experience to back me up once the door is opened by that piece of paper!

School of hard knocks & university of life have served me well enough.

Say No ... What do you do? Maybe I'll give you a job with prospects ;o)

I noticed that QL (Qatar Living) is advertising schools with online degrees. I hope they will also issue disclaimer or notifications that those degrees are NOT valid here in the region for public or members' info. To keep others aware as well.

Unfortunately, employers in the Gulf place a lot of importance on the pieces of paper (and letters after the name)a weak point in the system (if there is ever one) that lots of people abuse for their own selfish agenda.

baldrick, i do see that kind of people everywhere here, in higher positions even.

tsk tsk tsk.... sad but true..

Unfortunately, employers in the Gulf place a lot of importance on the pieces of paper (and letters after the name) rather than ability, expertise, and experience. As you say Oryx, too many of them are gormless and they puff themselves up as being experts without knowing what the heck they are saying or doing.

My OND has served me well :O)

It was very unfortunate for me because i purposely went back to school in order to obtain a degree with the hope that it will provide me an opportunity for career growth in my current employment or where else in the country (qatar). To make it worst, i was paying my school fees from my pocket amounting $1,357 every five week for more than 2 years. And at the end, my degree was worthless.

If your employer feels you need a degree to further your career, you might want to look at other employers, especially those who like their staff to have plenty experience over a piece of paper.

I know a bloke who has TWO degrees but is still thick as a brick, and one of my staff is sitting an MBA but the he's an idiot with no common sense!

Yes, i can use my degree outside ME but i have no plans working in other countries. I would prefer going back to my home country if time permits. Thanks, s_isale.

University of Phoenix is a for- profit university. Meaning they are in it to get money from the students. Just a FYI- in the USA almost 99% of employers will no longer accept a degree from U of P. Make sure to do your research about these online universities as they are NOT there to educate you, but to take your money.

You best bet is to find an accredited university that has an online program affiliated with its' regular program.

Fyi... My UoP degree was successfully authenticated at the State of Arizona and US State Department (Washington) signed by Hillary Clinton.

Degree is necessary for me in order to get a professional or career advancement in my current employment. I've been working with my current employer for the past 12 years and there us no more career growth.

That's cos there are so many online degrees that can simply be bought!

Yes, I know it sucks, but ultimately, do you need a degree to do your job. I know I don't, but then, I'm happy with my two college certificates and 30 years experience!

Thanks for your comments britexpat!

First of all, i would like to clarify that University of Phoenix - Online (UoP) is accredited in the USA and other countries but NOT in most, if NOT all, countries here in the Middle East.

During my enrollment process UoP (Middle East - Dubai) disclosed this information from me and I did not realize this until I finished my degree. I was trying to get my diploma authenticated in the Qatar Embassy (USA) but they refuse becuase they have an outstanding instruction from Ministry of Education NOT honor ANY Online or Distance learning degrees.

I find this strange..

I don't know about the University of Phoenix, but when selecting a distance learning institution, the first step is to ensure that it is accredited in the USA or UK.

Secondly, if you knew this information at enrolment, then why did you persevere with the degree ?
