Undersea tunnel proposed for Doha---nice news

An undersea tunnel will link the New Doha International Airport road and the Ras Abu Aboud area to the West Bay under a new development plan for Doha, a senior official said yesterday. <>/b
The Corniche road will be turned into a “pedestrian-only zone” as part of the plan.
Ali al-Abdullah, Director of Planning at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, said a consultancy was looking into ways to revamp the entire Corniche area.
“We have assigned an international consultancy to assess the situation and look into how they can redevelop the area,” al-Abdullah told Qatar News Agency in an interview.
Among the major features of the plan is the construction of a 12-km undersea tunnel, work on which would start in a year or two, the official said. “It will significantly contribute to the revamping of the Corniche area.”

Great idea over the years to come.. I wonder what kind of contingency plan will be there in place in case of an emergency across these tunnels..

Thats nice for Doha. Just like the previously planned Light rail transit system, its significant part of mass communication and to be in par with other developing countries.

and since pork is banned here you know how likely this is going to happen in our lifetime. I lump this in with the bicycle path with cooling system they are building in west bay and the beautiful fountain they are putting on palm tree island.
