An underdog's dilemma

Life’s an irony…You wait for a long time and you seem to have got the right opportunity and snap you wake up from the dream when you realize that what you thought was perfect had only been an illusion..its like the spotlights which by its glare makes everything look so glamorous and when the curtains are down and the lights fade the reality seems so stark, much in contrast to what you grown to believe.
Wondering what I’m talking about, my workplace which I loved but now am growing to dislike. I have not been here for long, four months during which I went out of my way (inspite of having two young kids ) for getting all the work done on time. Yes, my superior is good and all the team members are wonderful although superficially..but over the months , I have come to realize that not being and white skinned European has its drawbacks. (I have nothing against them personally) Frankly speaking, what would you do when you have been handling the work meant for two persons and I have been rewarded by gifts..extremely cheap gifts..but you don’t dare refuse since it would hurt the person giving it. Why should that upset me…its because of the prejudice that exists here. When new team member s(European) joined they are treated for breakfast, dinners at the five star restaurants and are introduced to all the top executives whereas you work your butt off and your work (forget appreciated) does’nt even get noticed. The same work that I have been doing when done by an European gets rave reviews. I’m not against anyone, we do have team members who have been working for a long time with our organization and definitely they have a special place, but when the new recruits become demanding, well you cant blame them since they are given an upper hand in everything… I’m getting totally frustrated.
So now I have decided..do whatever has been asked to..don’t do anything unless it has been asked for…and work just for the salary that I receive…
Is that a right decision?

Dearest Isola:

No my dear, you have to PROVE YOUR WORTH ALL THE TIME and if possible until the last day of your work. You were hired mainly to work for them/company and not them working for you, same goes when "playing". When someone new is inside the "house", especially their kind/color, give a smile and don't even or ever be jealous of her because she is just "new". Everyone will be bored of her sooner than you expect, especially when other new comer will enter the "house", prettier than her or worst if the management sees that you are a better performer than she is and that the GRAND welcome given to her was just a waste of time and money. If you can, ALWAYS BE ENTHUSIASTIC AT WORK then always give your best shot and when a better opportunity with other company comes (PRAY HARDER THAT GOD WILL GIVE YOU SOON), say goodbye to your old company with a GREATER SMILE, say good luck to them all especially to your boss and say to your self "YOUR LOST NOT MINE".
