TRUST CHINA PRODUCTS?

We know Chinese products are made of thinner materials than others. They bend more easily and break or wear-out earlier than expected. Sometimes what looks like a chrome plated metal product actually turns out to be amde from silver painted plastic. No wonder their products are cheaper. Or the metal products are made from inferior waste metals. Well, you get what you pay for. Fair enough when your life doesn't depend on it.

Now we learn from the Sanlu Milk Powder affair that they deliberately cheated and used melamine as a substitute. This resulted in the death of 10 babies and the hospitalisation of many more. Last news we had they put it in their eggs! What next!!???

How can you be sure that Chinese manufacturers are not cheating when they sell any product?

(Don't tell us look for a QMS or product certification. They obviously had those at Sanlu)

when it happens time and again and in such proportions can you blame anyone? I think not. We must be vigilant. I think caveat emptor is the latin term.

I have never heard of anywhere else in the world where they commit such callous abuse of established norms, procedure and trust. Those parents trusted the milk powder! What about the babies?

Yes, the new Lenovos look good and yes, most of the up-market fashion designers are patronos of the cheap labour factories in China. These people fortunately realise that their reputation is worth more money at the point of sale and therefore more profit. So greed is good?

QFire, I think you are generalizing to much. There are plenty of Good Products made in China. It i all down to the specifications they are made to. Iphone is for example made in China and the Quality is great. Lenovo Computers are Chinese, they are great as well. Sony and others make a lot of their product in China, with good Quality.

I know personally about high end Clothes manufacturers that get their products made in China - to ensure Quality they supply fabrics and they got their own QC Personnel at site to ensure Quality. I do not disagree that there are a lot of junk coming from China to make that clear.

No.

I'm Chinese but .... Every time I say some of the things QFire has said, I get branded as racist. Whatever.

I bought a set of plastic drawers last month from Carrefour, City Centre, Doha. At triple the price I'd get at home, the drawers looked like they were value for money. At least the display sets did, so I bought one. When I got home and opened it up to assemble it, the bottom drawer was in pieces. Not talking about the "to be assembled parts". I mean, the drawer itself was really in pieces! Obviously, not transported well and more obviously, substandard materials in its production line.

And the trouble it took me to go back to City Centre to get it exchanged was a major hassle - I didn't have transport at that time and had problems getting Karwa taxi to find my abode. Major hassle. Anyway, it was made in the PRC. I'd have thought that in the ME where money is not really the issue, they'd look into better quality control ... but nooooo...

//By the way, I originally intended to post my reply with just my 1st sentence.. Oops!

/But having said that, I started and ended my postie with the same word so I guess that ties things up nicely, no?

Check it out on wikipedia.

So if the product says Made in China, would you still consume it or rely upon it?
