True friendship is an illusion

boy-next-door
By boy-next-door

It's sad but in my whole life I haven't met/found a friend whom I can consider as true and trustworthy. Thus, I now believe that there is no such thing as true friendship. I'm sharing this because I would also like to hear from fellow QLers about their experiences about friendship. Your comments could either confirm or change my view (and other people's view) about it.

How about you, have you got a true friend? I would love to hear from you.

@tinker - That's really something that will keep me going (and thinking). I'll put that in mind.

@MN - Got it! :). Thanks man.

damselindistress: so true! I once invited a girl I knew from Face book for a night out and dinner. As soon as she got in the car she was like (I hope you know not all girls from my nationality are bad girls) and then for the rest of the night she was telling me about all those B*** she got played by and I spent the entire night passing tissue papers );

@damsel Yeah the more it is difficult here because people will think either of the two that you've already mentioned.

@C.Lost I guess I'll have to do that.

@viva_life I have done all those things you have enumerated, but still no luck. :(

when you realize why you can't find them... then you'll stop looking for them.

you don't look for them... ok, this is a natural process you can't force. because so many try to look for something they fail then they give up and believe the world is a harsh, uncaring place.

when you stop looking for it.. then you'll find what it is you were looking for in the first place.

:D got it!?

@clownfish, this is what I meant about entrusting your life with somebody:

TWO MEN were traveling together, when a Bear suddenly met them on their path. One of them climbed up quickly into a tree and concealed himself in the branches. The other, seeing that he must be attacked, fell flat on the ground, and when the Bear came up and felt him with his snout, and smelt him all over, he held his breath, and feigned the appearance of death as much as he could. The Bear soon left him, for it is said he will not touch a dead body. When he was quite gone, the other Traveler descended from the tree, and jocularly inquired of his friend what it was the Bear had whispered in his ear. "He gave me this advice," his companion replied. "Never travel with a friend who deserts you at the approach of danger." Moral: Misfortune tests the sincerity of friends.

"but I have yet to find one whom I can trust my life with."

This line makes me think that you are not just looking for true friend but for a partner in life.

True friendship cannot be build in a day. It will be tested for years.

I have one back home.....I guess it will take time to build a platonic foundation with a friend, it needs to be tested in time.

If you are trying to look for a true friend here in Qatar, you may get one but i will wish you TONS of goodluck! It's kinda rare here... you may get friends yes, but true ones, i doubt it...

Some people even simply dont know what a friend is... lol... especially if you are going to befriend an opposite sex. Duh! Some people think that if you wants to be friends with an opposite sex it means sex or money! LOL... those kind of people are crap!

@flor1212 That's what I'm sayin, there are people we call friends at work, school, community but I have yet to find one whom I can trust my life with. What I'm looking for in a friend is complete trust without doubts. What's the use of friendship if there are many reservations? Well I think it's given that parents, relatives, & family are expected to stand by you. But then again a relative can always betray you.

If the answer is yes, I am sure you would identify "true friend" withing your friend group!

To all: Thanks for the insightful comments.

@FS,UkEng That's why it hurts because I've been true to the people I know but they haven't been. I apply the golden rule (do unto others what you want people do unto you)in my life but it seems good deeds don't always reciprocate.

@MN Agree. A dog is man's loyal and best friend.

@bluerose Consider yourself one of the luckiest people on earth if you've got a real friend.

You hit it!I agree. And don't ever ask nor seek true friendship... for it comes naturally. And this kind of friendship is aged by time, just like wine... the longer it's aged, the better it gets my Friend.

Don't give up... hope to have one, and it will come.

there is no such thing as "true friend",friends come and go into your life,true friend is someone you can lean,someone who can accept for who you are and not for your status.i have been here for a long time but never met someone that i can truly trust.

Yeah there are a few good people out there... my friends that are true and trustworthy are mostly from my younger days and we still keep in touch till today. But its hard to make new (real) friends once you are older and everyone seems to have some agenda. But you never know you do meet some good people once in a while, don't give up... :)
