Tropical Cyclone...possible hit site, Omani coast
Not sure if any of you are keeping up with this but it certainly caught MY eye...Hope jauntie gets out before it gets any closer!!!
OMAN
Latest meteorological reports indicate that a tropical cyclone has formed in the Indian Ocean and could hit the southern Omani coast (Dhofar Governorate) as early as Thursday. The storm is apparently projected to be considerably smaller than Cyclone Gonu that hit Oman in June 2007 and caused considerable damage and loss of life.
Oman is bracing itself for the possibility of another tropical cyclone but this time it could be of a lesser intensity and hit the south of the country, according to a forecast by the Meteorological Department on Monday. In June this year tropical Cyclone Gonu struck Oman's eastern coast, Muscat and the northern parts of the country, causing extensive damage and loss of lives, particularly due to flooding that followed torrential rain for three days. The winds then reached over 70 knots. In this cyclone, currently unnamed and known as tropical cyclone 05a, meteorological officials expect winds to reach around 40 knots. "At the moment the storm has winds of around 25 knots," Ahmad Saeed Nasser of the Meteorological Department in Dhofar Governorate told Gulf News from Salalah. "The low pressure system located over the Arabian Sea has formed into a storm and could hit the southern Omani coast around Thursday," he added. He said the low pressure over the Arabian Sea was now centered approximately 850km away from Sadah in Dhofar Governorate. "The storm is expected to bring with it thunder, heavy rain and subsequent flooding in the Dhofar region," he said.(Gulf News 31 October 2007)

I was there with a one month old baby!!!! didn't lost anything (wet carpets downstairs) but one of my friends was evacuated by helicopter from her villa.
I don't think that this one will be the same, because in Oman, they will inform (like they did befor Gono: sms, 24/24 TV directions...)
God save Oman and all other countries
Jauntie should have swim suit with her. Also she can run faster than the cyclone.
I do not think it is serious. They are not talking about it in the local news bulletins, unlike Gonu. That one was more than 100 knots if am not mistaken.
Is it Darude returning?? :D
tra la la
Oh no! I was there when cyclone Gonu hit. It was horrible. Lost both cars and all my furniture downstairs. Hope this one aint as bad.
