Flights with infants is a a bit daunting, as i recently experienced. Take the essential items that your baby needs but dont worry too much as the airlines will have extra diapers formula etc if you request them but its best to be prepared incase they dont. Novitta is right they are preetty useless sometimes in helping but you need to be assertive especially if you are on your own,if you need help and insist they will oblige.

Take a light stroller with you for the airports and carry as less hand luggage as possible, only the essentials you and your baby needs. Dont take any hand luggage with wheels, a backpack or nappy bag is easier as you can place it on your stroller or on your back as you will need your hands free.

Ring the travel agent and insist on a bassinet(for when your baby will sleep) and go early to the airport to ensure you get one incase if there are too many babies onboard.

DONT worry about your child throwing tnatrums or crying, in my experience passengers are very helpful and understanding and you will find they will help you even if you dont ask them. For the passnegers who are annoyed by babies crying, i wouldnt worry, its not like you are intentionally annoying them besides ive flown many times with passengers who are loud and throw tantrums(usually at the cabin crew)and if you can handle their tantrums they can handle an infant crying.

Lastly my doctor prescribed a syrup that has antihistamine(ie like cough syrup or medicines they use for allergies) called polamarine, this is specific to infants as you have to be careful what you give infants, this helps them calm down and with their ears upon take off and landing. Do see a doctor not just a pharmacist, and test this on your child a week or so before flying as it can have the reverse effect on some children and make them very hyper. It worked with one of my children but the other one was climbing on walls, hence i had to get something else for him before the flight.

If your infant uses a pacifier give it to them upon take off and landing or their milk/water to drink from the bottle to avoid ears popping from the pressure, really helps..

Do try and relaaaaax, if you are nervous it will make it harder for you and its not as daunting when you are experiencing it.....enjoy your flight.

If all else fails, have your baby drink just the right dosage of his cough or cold medicine prior to boarding, so ,he/she would be sleepy or asleep throughout the flight and wouldn't make so much fuss. Just a suggestion.

If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried

Well, it's not easy but you'll make it. Bring lots of snacks and pack your carry-on as light as possible...not easy with a baby I know. You probably won't be able to get to the bags above your head so try to shove it all in one that can go at your feet - at least diapers, food and toys down by you. You can request a fruit plate when you book and that might help with the food situation. I've had good results with cabin crew helping with heating up formula bottles. More than likely travel agent will tell you basinette row is full...so get to the airport early and be really nice, you make get lucky. :) Good luck!

8 months old is quite hard to travel with alone as the baby can't sit alone, can't leave alone even if you need to go to the tiolet. Prepare all the necesities needed specially the milk formula, bring with you even his water, sterilized, you can buy the baby water available in the supermarket so you would not need to sterilized it. Milk should be measured ready and bring more extra feeding bottle, empty or with sterilized water readily measured for every feed. Bring extra nappies, blankets, clothes and take enough sleep before your flight. Because surely, you will be sleepless through the long flight. If you are breast feeding, take plenty of soup and milk and water in the flight so you will not run out of milk for him. Most importanly, you must have all the things pack in a light back pack and make it as light as possible. And take a direct flight. Make frends at the airport so as to have someone to help you in your luggage, specially in filling papers. Have a big or many pockets to put in your passport, or ticket or tissue for easy reach, big pocket to temporarily hold the feed bottle. Don't forget the child's favourite toy or book to read.

I hope these helps, have a happy flight.Take care..
