Traffic fine in R/A

agi
By agi

We are frightened from the very heavy traffic fines however driving in Qatar is not as easy as in Europe. I'd rather fine those drivers who are approaching the round abouts and changing lanes without any reason. That's why people hate driving here. I've never seen any country like this. All driving instructors should withdraw their licence if they can not teach the most basic rule to keep the lane. Where are the driving instructors from and do they know what is to be followed? Where is the police for such a violence? Why there is no heavy fine for such a case?

Just drive as u are driving among idiots and you have to reach home safe...

Its really frustrating when you are driving perfectly and someone drift in your lane for no reason... usually (70%) drivers enters the R/A from first lane get in the second lane in the R/A and exits through the third lane, as if the road is owned by their father...

Its ridicules…

the biggest problem at RAs people do not give way, especially suvs. they just do not stop, this makes me sick. they shall bring the rule that every car shall come to full-stop before entering the RA. And install cameras, if u don't follow it, 6000qr fine, like vialoting red-light. really very dangerous...

I'll tell you how I feel as a Qatari.

Two days ago at around 8 am, three cars lined up in the round about.

It was the tv roundabout.

A small pick up to my right drifted into the middle lane. THere are now parked police cars there in a special section to monitor the roads.

The pick updrifted until I honked. I looked at the police and he did nothing. SO I parked, got out and went to speak to the police man.

"why didn't you take note of his plate?"

He just smiled and shrugged as if to say "hey man, it's the early morning, I'm tired".

It pissed me off.

I have to deal with these pickups with idiot drivers that are usually indian, pakistani, bengali etc... I'm not targetting them, but sadly those are the people that are brought into the country with little experience for the sake of a bit of cheap labour, and it has consequences..

All I can say is is really no different anywhere in the world, in Germany they have had roundabouts for years and they still dont know how to use them

but color has nothing to do with it...its the inconsideration of the drivers...plain and simple..

The police...yeah, he should have said something to you at least, but if he did that all morning, he'd not be able to carry that notebook to the car..it'd be so heavy...besides, they are busy taking down cell phone offenders(probably calling work to say they are going to be very late!)...that one still cracks me up...because everyone is stuck in traffic..NOT moving and this guy is taking plate numbers...surely there is a better job for him..like taking plate numbers of the "drifters" in the roundabouts..

its just an absolute necessity here. I know what you mean about the switching of lanes in the roundies..Some folks come up the right hand side because its moving faster, then when in the roundie, will slide into the inside ring because they have priority of their movements..and go straight, when the inside ring is for turning left!!! Its just like the speeding issue...they are in a hurry and take the fastest way possible, regardless of who they run over or almost hit. I wish there was a way to ticket them automatically for that..drives me crazy!!!

and while we are at it..the large trucks...they come into the roundies and are supposed to watch for traffic but never do...they just start coming over even if you are in their way and can't move...I've lost count of the number of times I've been forced into(and over) the inside curb and that's from not being able to stop fast enough to avoid getting hit!!

Yeah, it's a problem not only inside the r/a, but when you exit as well.

Yesterday morning, in fact, I was in the outside lane at TV r/a, and was fully exiting to the outside lane. In other words, keep my lane, right? Well, the fool in front of me (a small pickup truck...) drifted over to the middle lane-- yep, in morning traffic-- then decided to exit to the outside lane. You just really really really have to pay attention. If I hadn't been, and not seen what was going to happen, and not slammed on my brakes, he would have sideswiped me. It wasn't a matter of letting the guy in. It was a matter of the guy deciding to use the exact same space my car was occupying.

Of course I laid on the horn, and the dudes in the pickup looked at me as though there was some problem with them arbitrarily deciding to change exit lanes while I was there.

No, the guy wasn't Qatari. It was a ubitquious little pickup filled with ubitquious workers of a seemingly ubitquious nationality or set of nationalities which seem to frequently drive those little pickup trucks, fully-occupied with passengers.

I was lividly hopping mad. It was a really good thing we didn't stop near one another at Burger King r/a, or I was about a hair's breadth away from getting out and shouting at the dude.

I'm not trying to be the controlling white girl here, either. It's the fact that you've absolutely got to pay attention when you're driving here, particularly when traffic is heavy like that, and even more particularly when exiting or entering roundabouts. If it wasn't me, it would be someone else he would cause an accident with, simply by not paying attention. I'm very lucky someone wasn't right behind me in the lane, or I could have gotten rear-ended. Which would have really made a lot of people angry since it was the morning rush-hour scramble.

All it would have taken the guy was a simple mirror/head check before changing lanes. God forbid. *shakes head*

I was under the impression you can change lanes at a certain distance approaching R/A especially when 3 lanes converge to 2 lanes later. Ofcourse, not while you are at the R/A.
