Al Shammal and Madinat Khalifa registered the highest number of traffic accidents while the Industrial Area witnessed the highest proportion of localised fatalities from motor crashes in Qatar in 2010, according to official figures. A total of 4,177 cases of traffic accidents were reported by the traffic authorities in the country, of which Al Shammal and Madinat Khalifa constituted 18% each at 770 and 763 cases respectively, Qatar Statistics Authority (QSA) data revealed. Of the 770 traffic accident cases in Al Shammal, 56 resulted in death, which was 7% of the total cases there, and of the 763 cases in Madinat Khalifa, 17 resulted in deaths (2%). Both areas saw deaths from accidents constituting 28% and 9% of the total accident deaths in the country. It was found that Al Shammal had not only the highest number of traffic accidents but also had the highest proportion of accident deaths in the country. The QSA figures did not furnish the accident details about the capital Doha. Although the Industrial Area reported the least number of accidents in the country with its share at 3% or 115 cases, fatalities were the highest among the areas at 10% or 11 deaths. The death rate in traffic accidents in the Industrial Area was 6% of such cases in the whole country. Al Mamoura came in third position, after Al Shammal and Madinat Khalifa, with it reporting a total number of 727 traffic accidents (17% of total accidents in the country), of which 37 resulted in death, which was 5% of the total cases there. The deaths in traffic accidents in Al Mamoura were 19% of the total deaths from accidents in the country. Al Mattar was in fourth position with it reporting a total number of 659 traffic accidents (16% of the total accidents in Qatar). There were 13 deaths from accidents, which were 2% and 7% of deaths from accidents in that locality and the whole country respectively. Al Rayyan reported 524 traffic accidents or 13% of the total accidents in the country. The area saw 20 deaths from accidents, which were 4% and 10% of accident deaths in the locality and Qatar respectively. South witnessed 454 traffic accidents of 11% of total accidents in Qatar. There were 34 deaths from accidents, which were 7% and 17% of accident deaths in that locality and in the whole country respectively. Dukhan reported 165 accident cases or 4% of total accidents in the country, which resulted in 10 deaths. The place saw 6% of death occurring from accidents there and it was 5% of such deaths in the whole country. Source: Gulf-Times

I was reading an article the other day, pointing out that most accidents (60%) were provoked by expats and "only" 40% by Qataris.

Expat population: roughly 1,550,000

Qatari population: roughly 250,000

Shame on the expats!!! :)

Discipline, respect for others and being a defensive driver is a must habit for all of us. Unfortunately, some drivers think they are the king of the roads.

Allahu Must3aan... Something I fret about constantly...who will be a part of this morbid statistic next?God have mercy and protect  all the law abiding and scrupulous people from those careless demons cruising the street. Is the pomp thrill and adrenalin rush really worth all this carnage? Audubillah!

Sooo right..."Better late than not arriving at all"

Drive safely, every life is worth that safety. Life is fun but playing with life for fun is not a sensible act at all. Allah bless us all.
