Top Bollywood singer to perform in Doha

Indian ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa presenting the entry pass to Dr Kunhammed T and Dr Finoj Ahmed as embassy officials and ICBF office bearers look on

The Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) will organise a music programme featuring popular Bollywood singer Alka Yagnik and her troupe on September 15 at Doha Cinema.
The event, Rhythm 2011, is intended for mobilising resources for ICBF’s charitable activities to support the needy members of the Indian community in Qatar.
Among the activities of the ICBF are providing financial and medical assistance, air tickets to deportees, regular food supplies to stranded labourers, repatriation of mortal remains to India and supplying personal hygiene items to male and female inmates in the Deportation Centre and jail.
The forum has provided various types of financial and other humanitarian assistances to more than 30,000 deserving members of the Indian community in Qatar in the last 25 years.
The entry pass of the music show was released by Indian ambassador Deepa Gopalan Wadhwa at a ceremony at the Indian embassy.
She handed over the first pass to the event’s main sponsor Focus Medical Centre’s managing director Dr Kunhammed T, and dental director Dr Finoj Ahmed.
Indian embassy’s deputy chief of mission Sanjiv Kohli, first secretary M R Querishi, second secretary Anil  Nautiyal and ICBF officials attended the function.
Alka Yagnik has won seven Filmfare awards and two national awards. Her first chartbuster was mere anaganema tumara kya kaam hai for the film Laawaris, followed by hits like ek do teen and so gaya Yeh Jahna from Tezab and songs from Qayamat se Qayamat Tak, where Alka was the only female singer.
Alka Yagnik is classically trained and has been one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood since the late 1980s. She began singing bhajans (religious songs) for Calcutta Radio at the age of six. Her first song was for the film Payal Ki Jhankaar (1979), followed by Laawaris (1981), and Hamari Bahu Alka (1982). She got her big break with the song ek do teen from the film Tezaab (1988). The song turned her into a star overnight and went on to become a pop hit, also winning her a Filmfare Best Female Playback Award. Qayamat se Qayamat Tak was also a career maker for her, as she along with Udit Narayan became household names.
She has sung in many languages including Gujarati, Odia, Assamese, Manipuri, Nepali, Rajasthani, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Punjabi, Marathi,
Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam.
She has worked with many composers such as Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin-Lalit, Anu Malik, A R Rahman, Anand-Milind, Himesh Reshammiya and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy.
Alka Yagnik will be accompanied with noted male singer Chetan Rana and comedian Ashok Mishra at the
Doha show which starts at 8pm.
ICBF has appealed to Indian expatriates to support the worthy cause.
Entry passes are available at the Indian Cultural Centre, ICBF Help Desk at the Indian embassy, the Indian Club, Maharaja Restaurant, and Swagath Restaurant (Najma).

Actually Rizks my favorite is Lamb Rogan Josh. Whilst not as spicy as most I like, it tastes heavenly. I haven't had a good one here in Qatar yet, but Mmmmmmm... the thought of it is making my mouth water.
