Tips for Thailand please

Morning everybody

We have just booked our flights to Thailand and are busy organising what to do while we're there, and we would appreciate any advice you guys have.

Our rough plan is to spend a few days in Bangkok, then get the train up to the Chiang Mai province and explore there for maybe a week (and maybe stopping at somewhere on the way up there), and then fly down to the south-west coast for some diving and relaxing.

So if anyone has been to or comes from Thailand it would be great if you could let us know the places and sites we should definitely try and visit, as well as those that aren't worth the effort.

Many thanks in advance!

thatguy - I got my EOS 350d from the Canon refurb shop on ebay (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Canon-Outlet). It was significantly cheaper than anywhere else.

Not really a acam but don t take a free tuk-tuk beacause it will take you double the time to get anywhere...they will normally take you to gold and silver showrooms as the driver gets commission. Just pay the fare!

And don t get into any card games.

If you're living life on the edge, you've got too much room.

Nice pics Novita. In Bangkok, the Grand Palace is worth visiting, it may take 1/2 day. The floating Market and local wood carving shops are a must-see (there are organized tour packages done by the hotels). If you're going south, I recommend Phuket. From there you can go and visit the nearby islands (we went to James Bond Island..nothing very special about it but from it's name it is where one of 007's films were shot); and if you are there, book for the theme park shows, you'll enjoy it for sure. Have a nice holiday!

Having been to Jordan and Egypt this year I'm getting quite used to the con-artists, but I'll make sure I keep my guard up.

just got time and bored killing time before school pick up so digging out my old piccies. Thais are friendly people generally ... but there are loads of con stories over there. Just beware and always be in your guards.

Tallg ... if you do watching the show on Siam Niramit ... come early. They have all sorts of thai cultural introductory before the show start. You can feed the elephant and see how the traditional food made in the special purpose made small version of thai village. Quite interesting...

For Bangkok ... make sure you visit the floating market and chatuchak market. Do the Chao Phraya River tour. If you have time try to see Siam Niramit Show in the huge auditorium (seat for 2000 people). Last time we were there if you pay with visa card you will get free dinner buffet thrown in.

Visit Wat Arun and the Grand Palace (beware with the conman trying to tell you that the palace close for praying and they said you should go and look around with Tuk Tuk to the temple nearby ... and somehow on the temple there is another guy / lady will approach you that they have precious stone to sell).

Visit Siam Paragon shopping mall ... on the basement there is a Siam Ocean World.

Make sure your hotel is nearby the Bangkok BTS system (monorail transport) ... it would be alot easier travelling around). We always stayed in Novotel Siam Square bangkok ... walking distance to the train station.
